I think this is a bit reductive. I'll concede that there is a lot of reading, but that's a selling point when the writing is as high of quality as it is in this game.
Traditional point and click games don't incorporate as many tabletop RPG elements as Disco Elysium does which is what makes this game so unique. Most point and click games drive home a narrative that is mostly linear where you end up with few different endings based on your choices throughout the game. This is much more of a role playing game compared to even the highly rated point and click games like Dreamfall or Syberia.
Still have to better understand the dice system. Love it, feels like back in the day when I failed every dice throw even though the odds were like 9:1 in my favour ;D
Snake eyes is a guaranteed failure and boxcars is a guaranteed success, so there's always at least 1/36 chance to fail even the easiest test and at least 1/36 chance to pass even an otherwise impossible check.
Just don't tempt yourself to save scum (loading a previous save if you failed a skill check) too often. In traditional tabletop games there is no save system, you just have to deal with the consequences of a bad throw. It's not like the game master tells you game over if you throw snake eyes. If you have enough health and morale, just roll with it if you fail. The game is designed to emulate a tabletop experience if you fail skill checks.
