I dont understand 70% of the Dialogues.
As in, i do understand the words, they just dont make sense most of the time.
Am i not taking enough drugs to process this game?
Bacause clearly, the Devs were on LSD when they wrote this.

Really? Did he write it in English or did someone translate it for him? Because if he wrote it in English, that's seriously impressive

Yet as an Estonian, he'll have had well over a decade of English education, as well as being indundated with English media. The studio is also based in Hove, in the UK, and he currently lives there. He might not be a native speaker, but he's the next best thing and his English is considerably better than many who are.

Also, there's a team of writers. It's not just Kurvitz.

Not sure if it were translated or not. But the whole development team is from Estonia. And since there's only an English language option, I'd imagine they only wrote it in English, but that's just speculation from my part.

A lot of the dialogue choices feel disconnected from the flow of the conversation. It is not complex writing, but confusing narrative in the appearance of "freedom and choice".
Sometimes dialogue options can refer to something said by NPC previously, especially if that's a long speech they've had, you have to backtrack in your textbox a little sometimes~

Guys, is not that they advertised the game for oxford-like-english-speaker only!!!
The game it supposed to be accessible to all (with an average level of English) or it should be advised otherwise before purchase...and I didn't see such requirement...

And also tell me....is the writing so good because they used a lot of rich-vocabulary-dialogues??
You can make a brilliant script also with simple concepts.

I don't care if the character suffer amnesia, the dialogues are confusing as hell!!!

I think maybe that's your problem, this is the kind of language and structure that only native english speakers will 100% understand. There's a lot of heavy metaphors and stuff that won't translate well to someone who doesn't think in English.

English is not my native language but I understand the game perfectly fine.
I don´t find the writing in this game difficult to understand at all.
I´m about as comfortable with reading and hearing english as my native language.

And I don´t even live in an english speaking country.

There isn't such a requirement because it's not required. At all.

Even lines like from the racist lorry driver, "You wouldn't understand, we have Revashol in our soles!" might be hard to fully understand if you are not comfortable enough with the language.

Maybe it is more a question of me not being able to understand the mindset and thought-trains of the actors.

Just play the game under the influence of a few Jägermeister shots. Your level of understanding the game will improve significantly!

I am not a native english speaker myself. My level is around intermediate and i would say i understand around 75% of text. I get the general idea most of the time or everything exept few new words which i google.

Many words are used in a broader, not direct meaning here. Quite some have "correct" meaning in-universe only, so you need to gather information about the world the game is set in, then a lot of words start making sense.

I mean it's a fantasy world, so many names and such are made up. This might create confusion? It has for me a few times, especially when they are mixing it with real ideas/places. But yeah it's a lot of dialogue and so many "thoughts" that goes back and forth.. anyhow pay close attention and don't play when you are too tired. That's my recommendation.

Its a game where the dialog is not dumbed down to stupid one liners like the overwhelming majority of games are now. I admit, my brain sometimes hurt trying to decipher what is said, but that just tells me that my intellect has degraded some thanks to the dumbing down of media and social media influence (twitter dialog for example). It is nice having something to user your brain on and being a little challenging.
Brother PaciFist Oct 18, 2019 @ 8:36am
@OP You are not high enough to understand the dialogues. Listen to 1990 disco music, take some shots and a blunt. Then you will start to understand :).

I'm not native and don't use the language all too often. Yet I got like all of this. Maybe your knowledge is just sub-par?

I am not "oxford-like-english-speaker", nor I consider myself to have above average English and I understand everything just fine. In Legacy of Kain series I was reaching for a dictionary, because there they had a lot of uncommon words. Not the case here.

I am thinking the people who find the dialogues confusing aren't as proficient in English to be even average at it and that's the reason they are lost when stats speak to them.
