Can I play as a Female?
Checked every question in the FAQ and didn't see anything. Also didn't notice anything on the store page. All males I could see. I usually only play female characters, don't ask me why, so this is a deciding factor for me to buy it or not.

Thanks.

Nope, the protag is fixed. It's his story.

Aww, man. :( Not the answer I was hoping for. Shame. Thanks, though.

I've played plenty of games with male-only protagonists: Darksiders, Alone in the Dark, God of War, Castlevania, to name a few. E: And of course The Witcher. How could I forget The Witcher? xD

However, I can't deny the certain appeal of playing the opposite sex. I simply find it more fun to play a female char that kicks ass*. In games like Dragon Age, I will still play female versions of typically male classes, e.g. warrior, because it appeals to my fantasies, I guess.

I will still consider this game anyway. I love customization and free choice.

Dont worry, since there seems to be no fights you can play as a dude.

uhh i thought there was only one male character you can play as? there is no choice it is their story and role you play?

For a game that prides itself on "Unprecedented freedom of choice" it's rather disappointing.

You are taking the phrase out of context. It´s about moral freedom to choose the protagonist´s will. That´s what roleplaying games are about.

When you play the game you will understand why this character needed to be a male.

Story plays a lot on stereo types, and kicking things off as a troubled cop, who is at a very low point in his life and needs to deal with the fallout of what happened before (uou take control of him).

The unprecedented freedom comes afterwards, it allows for a much more engaging story and a lot more powerful writing. This game qould not be any where near as good without a pre-defined toon.

It is like asking why you cannot be a male Lara Croft.

Yes, I understand. It's just for some reason nowadays MC in cRPG almost always have to be a male.

Sure it could be that good with a self created character but it’s not necessary

Nowadays? I am not sure what planet you may be referring to. Female protagonists in games are a relatively new thing. Lara Croft (1996) may have been the very first, and I think was the first in the US market. And she didn't get her modern, reasonably-clothed look until several games into the series.

Gender choices for games where you generate a party are slightly older, because once the devs are spending resources on multiple graphics sets (for race and/or class) having some female ones is not a big deal.

The question of whether you can choose the protagonist's gender was not really even asked of most games until som time this century - casual research isn't finding me a date.

Its the one thing keeping me from purchasing:(

I agree. They could’ve kept the character the same but just did a female set of graphics.
