Go watch some gameplay?

If you're expecting combat mechanics then this game isn't for you - seems like the gameplay loop is centred entirely around dialogue and narration, with you walking around in an isometric world to investigate clues as you go.

It is not a visual novel in the sense that you sit there, hitting the "dialogue advance" button as your only real form of interaction. You walk around, examining things, talking to characters, picking up items and using them.

Your attributes and skills drastically alter how you interact with the world. If you don't have enough Visual Calculus, you won't be able to make sense of that jumble of footprints. If you don't have enough Drama, you won't be able to tell if someone is lying to you.

There is no differentiation between combat and dialogue in the game - both are handled through the dialogue system.

There is a tremendous amount of reading in the game. There is only a limited amount of voice-acting. If you hate reading, and the way you phrase it sounds like you do, then this might not be for you.

This is closer to a visual novel type of game, it's all about dialog options, but it's very interactive. It's as humorous as a game can get, but there is no point in buying it if you are planning on skipping text.

Having said that, it's been 4 hours, I've punched a kid, jumped backwards on a lady in a wheelchair and died to a mailbox.

it's a spectrum, very close to a visual novel, just enough for people to defend it's not

thanks.

It's not a book, or a visual novel, but with your attitude, OP, I am pretty sure that this isn't a game for you. Because you still need to read a lot.

If you've played planescape torment it's going to be more like that and less like dragon age origins.

It's more in line with like Walking Dead or Life Is Strange, only instead of QTEs and such its more pen n paper style rpg with checks and rolls. Having high stats could let you do stuff but still a chance of failure like that.

Planescape Torment, though leaning more toward Torment Tides of Numenera in regards to encounters and lack of combat.

From the variety of high quality RPGs in your Libary that you've played I'd say you should still give a try, if you want a really compelling narrative that video games usually don't dare to tread into.

It has enough gameplay inbetween reading to enjoy it for people who don't like VNs, and you don't read it nonstop but in large chunks that take a few minutes each time and you constantly interact with the world inbetween and explore.

It really shouldn't be missed out by people who love RPGs and CRPGs especially.

If you'd ever sink enough hours to Planescape you might find the charm in such games, which don't automatically have to be combat centric to be enjoyable. Just my two cents.

It depends on whether or not you consider roleplaying games to be either visuals novels or games. Keep in mind that this game is very close to a tabletop version of an RPG, with less focus around combat.

That's not how forums work.

If you have played 'Planescape: Torment' it is *very* similar in gameplay, though there is no combat outside of narration. The main progress in the game is made through investigation, exploration, and talking to everyone you can - probably more than once.

The game requires a tremendous amount of reading, so if that's not your thing, this won't be for you.

I can't recall any visual novel that has skill checks
