The mission to unlock REX is one of the worst things in the game

I've recently started a new save file because I wanted to start from the beginning, and REX was always my favorite character, so i thought i'd set sights on unlocking them first.

But holy CHRIST! I don't know how I had the sanity to do this the first time. See, to unlock REX, you need to grab the battery from the starting pod and hold it in your equipment slot until you reach the stage that REX's destroyed husk is in. The only problem is, that stage is one of the 4th stages, Abyssal Depths, meaning just to get there I had to play through an average half an hour game just to get to that point-which i could do! I've very consistently gotten to that point. The issue I'm having is that the game just outright REFUSES to give me the stage I need, Abyssal Depths, and has only given me Siren's Call or the new mushroom biome everytime I've run through it. Unlike a character like Loader, who despite being a single stage 4 unlock, has the method to be unlocked completely in that level with no need for outside items. With REX, if the game doesn't give you the depths the first go around, you are left at a MASSIVE disadvantage because you now have to finish the loop with no equipment item and a replacement that only EXPLODES if you take too much damage! So yes, I restarted every run after I didn't get it it the first time, because it would be unfair otherwise. and yes, I'm also aware that you can choose the next area you go to in the Bazaar, but the Bazaar only has 2 choices for choosing the next stage anyway so you're still at the mercy of the game deciding whether or not you get to go to it, only with a SLIGHT more chance!

it's insipid and brain numbing. I've been at this for 2 days now, and I'm really starting to lose patience. I mean, am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to unlock the depths now? Do I HAVE to go through Siren's Call just so it will let me into the Depths? Did they move the Depths stage to a different level of the game? Despite my 100+ hours of this game I can't get it to spawn, period. As I said, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but this REALLY feels like a poorly thought-out mission imo. I know what to do, i have the skill to do it, and the only thing holding me back is RNG. This game relies WAY to heavily on RNG.

No offense, but did you read my post?

I can't. Everytime I enter the Bazaar it only has 2 options for choosing the next stage, and it NEVER gave me the Depths. Literally it has the exact same problem as just hoping for it without the Blue portal, just with a SLIGHT more chance to give me what I want. It's still totally up to the game whether or not I get it.

Once again, no offense, but did you read the post?

I can't. The bazaar only ever has 2 options to choose from, and I NEVER got the depths there. It's only a slight more chance to guarantee getting the right stage, the game can still absolutely just decide that you're not gonna get the option to of it's own volation.

honestly i wish the stadia map wouldn't show up on the lunar shop dream seers so that you could always pick depths or sirens call (maybe give a 100% chance of depths on the seers if a player is carrying the fuel array)

Honestly even without the fuel array in mind I like having sirens call as my stage 4 map if not depths so I've just been running a mod to prevent sundered grove being chosen by the game RNG wise

for vanilla there isn't much one can do outside just editing the INI files to unlock rex or constantly trying again and hoping for the best sadly :c

Sounds like you're just incredibly unfortunate. Depths appear just fine in my games.

No offense meant here, but you decide yourself which difficulty you want to complete challenges on. If you're struggling, just play drizzle until you've completed this challenge. You don't need an equipment and you can certainly play through multiple loops on drizzle with the fuel array. I'm sure you'll get Depths in the seer within 2 loops.

If you've decided to do it on rainstorm or monsoon, I respect that.

I'm not playing through twice as much as I need to with an item that feels like walking on eggshells. It's not that this task is hard to do, it's just not fun because the design of the item goes against the entire design of the game. The game's about engaging in creative loadouts wth various items, characters, etc... but the Fuel Array encourages cowardly, non-combative rushing, and, maybe this is just me, but that is just not a fun way to play RoR2.

I think the 4th stages should be handled differently when you go to the Bazaar, for example the game would guarantee the stage that isn't available in either dream portals prior to entering the 4th stage, and it would only change to another stage if you used a dream portal. Or just make 3 dream portals appear instead of the usual 2, I don't see the harm in that.
