Problems & Fixes

PROBLEM The camera is always pointing down, or I'm getting weird input latency!
FIX First, try unplugging and then replugging your controller. If that does not fix it, look under Device manager and make sure there are no controllers. If you have VJOY or HOTAS installed, please uninstall it!


PROBLEM The game won't launch - crashes on startup!
FIX Please make sure to update your Graphics Drivers, disable any Antivirus, and restart your PC. Afterwards, reinstall the game!


PROBLEM The game is running really poorly or hotly - even though my machine is good.
FIX Please make sure that V-Sync is disabled in your Nvidia Control Panel, and that your Graphics Drivers are up to date!

PROBLEM I can't get past the first screen, and it says EARLY_ACCESS_DISCLAIMER.
FIX Please make sure that your Window System Clock's Timezone is NOT Invalid. If that does not fix it, please uninstall THEN reinstall VC++ 2015, shown here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145


PROBLEM All the strings in the game say stuff like CONTEXT_NAME_STRING, TITLE_MENU_STRING, etc.
FIX Please make sure that your Window System Clock's Timezone is NOT Invalid. If that does not fix it, please uninstall THEN reinstall VC++ 2015, shown here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145


PROBLEM My mouse doesn't remain bound in the window.
FIX Try uninstalling 'vjoy' or hotas and see if that fixes it.


PROBLEM My save file disappeared!
FIX Please restart steam and then Right Click "Risk of Rain 2" -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Files. The save file should come back from Steam Cloud.


PROBLEM I can't press the Continue button in the title. It also may say EARLY_ACCESS_DISCLAIMER.
FIX
We've generally narrowed down the issue to your **Save data being corrupted. This may be caused because you shut the game down abruptly or another issue occured.** Please note that this will wipe your save file contents. If you want, back it up elsewhere.

  1. First, make sure Risk of Rain 2 is closed.
  2. Restart Steam.
  3. Next, locate the folder that your userprofiles are saved in. This is typically in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(ACCOUNTNUMBER)\632360\remote\UserProfiles
  4. There should be an xml file in there with a bunch of random characters, i.e
    2919dc8a-fd4c-4c3c-bd7d-8aeeac67b831.xml
  5. Open the .xml file in Notepad. Go to https://pastebin.com/BQkjgRrK and copy the contents of the Pastebin INTO the .xml file, REPLACING ALL THE EXISTING CONTENT. Press Save.
  6. Reopen the game in Steam.
Please let me know if this works - we will be patching the game in the future to work around this, but for now this should at least let you enjoy the game.


PROBLEM NONE OF THESE WORKED!
FIX If all else fails, we've been having great success with just restarting your PC. As silly as it sounds, it tends to fix most problems.

Alternatively, if you want to keep vJoy installed, you can use vJoy Feeder to set all joystick axis to 50, then recalibrate with the windows usb controller tool. working for me

This doesnt work. Restarted pc. reinstalled the vc++, reinstalled game. Nothing works even though it worked a few hours ago.

didnt work for me either, i followed it exactly and properly reinstalled it but it still wouldnt let me click the continue button
the button itself is grayed out and i cant do anything and the loading circle isnt turning

same boat man, i literally have been trying to fix this for 3 hours now
None of these worked for me.

Game need to be updated I think.
I've currently verified the local files 5 times and restarted my computer twice and it still has not restored my save file. Hopefully this can get patched soon before someone loses a larger save file. :heart:

follow all steps above and still can't launch the game :steamfacepalm:
So for people not being able to hit continue with a corrupted save.

If you start steam in offline mode you CAN play the game. It will create a new save file but as soon as you go back online it won't work anymore. The game will still refuse to continue online even if you have no save files locally on your computer at all. Deleting all saves and disabling cloud sync does nothing. The saves are most likely stored on their end somewhere as well and it has to check every time.

I've tried renaming the new save that was generated by offline play to the one in the cloud but it still does nothing. Unfortunately it seems like something on their end has to be done to fix this.

Here's the directory for the saves if anybody else wants to try tinkering with it.
x:\Steam\userdata\######\632360\remote\UserProfiles

Seriously? I shouldn't even have a save, I didn't even get to start my first game. pepehands
If you your dude constantly looks down you should disable vjoy device in device manager in HID devices category

device menager ->HID devices
right click on vJoy Device disable or turn off (idk my windows has my native language)

Found the solution to the continue bug. https://www.reddit.com/r/ror2/comments/b6vhns/solution_to_cant_click_continue_during_launch_of/

Creating your own profile will bring the bug back however.
