I read somewhere that although Ignition Tanks boost the damage of burns now, burn overall became weaker with the DLC because they changed how its calculated. Anyone got any maths to prove/disprove it?

It does 50% of the impact damage now. I'm not sure exactly how it was calculated before, but it didn't scale well in later stages.

So now, it starts off a bit weaker but scales to stupidity later on as your damage increases.
I tested this with delicate watches and there is a useful video here.

From what I've seen, the theoretical numbers scaled better before. The difference is that now we have Ignition tanks and delicate watches. Before, focus crystals and AP rounds were the only way to scale ignition, which only work against bosses or enemies closer to you. Now with a dozen of delicate watches you have a damage increase against everything.

That said, old ignite would also scale well with delicate watches.

I think I got convinced that without ignition tank old ignite would be better in current update, but old ignite in previous update was not as good because the bonus damage items were all conditional.

Yea the new items help a hell of a lot. But also we didn’t have these items pre update so it’s hard to compare.
Regardless, i like the burn change as you can always guarantee you do 50% of the impact. Ignition tanks also push that way beyond old ignite as well.
For me, ignition tanks are now arti priority 1 item.

So like. As other people said, Watches and Ignition tank exist now, and flamethrower DOES scale with attack speed now. But there was an ignite nerf.

Had a run where my shrine of the mountain blessed me with double ignition tank, and then another shrine blessed me with another 2 ignition tanks. Was practically 1tapping everything with corrupted will o wisps.

Though this video is right, it's also incorrect at the same time. The video shows a level 1 captain doing ignite damage in 1's over 3 mins. This is because it scales off captains base damage over time but is still applying 50% impact as burn, resulting in a long burn time of not much damage per tick.

As you level up and your base damage increases, or you increase damage with items, your burn tick rate also goes up.

So yes, the video is correct but also it would be impossible to do this without picking up a fire aspect as level 1 captain.

As shown here. Burn tick rate goes up with damage increasing items and keeps same duration.

Also, ignite starts off a bit weaker but scales a lot better. Thanks to many more ways to increase your damage than before.
I wish i could go back and test the old vs new burn and see exactly how items would affect both.

Well no duh if you get a bunch of "Do % increased damage" items the burn does more, that's how the game works. Im sure if you get a crystal or a watch it would also scale it-- these also increase things like acrid's poison, etc. This doesnt really prove or change anything that was said?

Similarly, what youre telling me is-- Before, burn did damage based on base damage. Now, it does damage based on the impact, but is CAPPED PER SECOND by your base damage, so it is the worst of both worlds, isn't it?

And yes. Obviously adding a bunch of new items made it "better," but if it were unchanged you'd still have those new items. The change, while it happened at the same time, had nothing to do with new items.

And on the note of that "real mythbusters" channel, they uh. Have literally no comparison videos at all? Did you link the right one--

Back on topic though. Yes. Ignition tank fun. Good to have many. Much burn.

Crystals and watches do scale it yes, I just wanted to make sure people understood how it worked since the video you linked doesn't go over item scaling and scaling over time.
Also it's not bad for being capped on damage per tick, since it scales up as you increase damage. It has to have some sort of limit or else you would just do all the burn damage instantly which is similar to how overloading effects work. Burn isn't overloading and you can stack more burn as it ticks.

Every time I pick Artificer I hope to get an ignition tank, yet I've never got one on her. It's truly unlucky.
