Commando damage

Even with two brilliant behemoths and the new armor debuff item, I just cannot get enough damage with commando. He takes so long to kill anything

What were your other items? Behemoths are great, but if you're trading in valuable green items to make the trade then it might not be worth it. You need on-hit proc items to make commando effective - lensmaker glass, both bands, ukulele etc are must-haves. in mid-to-late game.

He's a little item-dependant. Less so now that Skills 2.0 has released, but I'm going to assume you don't have his new skills yet. Thing is, once you get just a few of the items that he needs you can start melting everything.

You should mainly be looking for the Ukulele, his best item, as well as Predatory Instincts, Soldier's Syringe and Lens-Maker's Glasses. The Ukulele helps to proc your on-hits as well as give you decent crowd control, Soldier's Syringes are just an attack speed boost but they're insane on Commando if you have enough, Predatory Instincts will give you even more attack speed whenever you crit as well as a hidden crit chance bonus, and Lens-Maker's Glasses just buff your crit chance further.

Get a mix of these, stack some Shaped Glass and you can melt pretty much everything in the game. That being said, if you don't until later in the run it might be a bit of a slog.

Do whatever it takes to unlock Phase Blast and the grenades. He's so much better than base Commando, he might as well be a new character altogether. The changes made to his R make it more viable, but only when you get insane attack speed, so just take the grenades. Slog through a Drizzle run to get the new skills and his item dependency gets so much more manageable now that he can actually kill things.

My favorite thing to build on commando is 7 tri-tipped daggers (multi-item terminal choices) then attack speed. Basically boosts you from 40%x2 per attack to 280%x2 (damage falloff cuts from 80x2 to 40x2) Just don't neglect healing items if there's no daggers or syringes
And unlike the first game, the bleed stacks infinitely (but each stack times out individually)

Most characters really are item dependent later. But compared to everyone else he seems terribly more so lol. I hadn't bothered getting his other skills till now, since I never play him. My rng is also just terrible, I haven't seen more then 5 crit glasses in like 8 runs now. And I cant remember the last time I had more then two soldier syringes.

Well of course, I meant just those on top of everything else. Actually the behemoths were my first two chest amazingly.
