My only negative: The Soundtrack
As a player of risk of rain 1, and player of risk of rain 2 since launch. I've overall been completely satisfied and happy with the games progress, the devs have impressed me and I'm excited to see more.

Having said that I always felt the game lacked something, and I was reading online and someone else pointed this out too. Risk of Rain 1 had a really awesome memorable soundtrack that instantly clicked and added to the games atmosphere.

So in Risk of Rain 2, the soundtrack is by no means bad. But its certainly a shadow of its former self in comparison. I think this is a negative because it doesn't add as much to the games feel as it did in ROR1. And by no means is this a dealbreaker, but a games atmosphere can completely change a way people perceive a game. There are many games thats soundtracks enhanced the games so much, that people still talk about the soundtracks.

Thougthts everyone? Disagree? Agree? Is this a pointless complaint?

I would love to see a way to select ROR1 music instead of ROR2 music. Outside of the Teleporter's music, most of the tracks just don't have that ambience or feel of desolation the game would like you to feel as you wander and fight through abandoned ruins.

Absolutely, the soundtrack kinda misses that eerie'ness at times.

AFAIK it's the same composer but I do think RoR1 had a lot more memorable tracks.

I don't necessarily dislike the soundtrack in RoR2 but there's nothing memorable about it. It doesn't stack up well when you compare it to the first game's excellent soundtrack. Hell, occasionally I'd just put RoR1 soundtrack on to listen to when playing other games. Very few games have ever gave me the desire to do that.

Yeah compared to ROR1's OST, ROR2's entire OST is just plain forgettable (with the sole exception being the main menu theme, but even then the first game's main menu theme is leagues better).
It's a shame too, since the composer said that he doesn't plan on making any music for this game that was similar to the first game. Basically meaning we're not getting anything similar to amazing songs such Monsoon, Arctic Oscillation, Hailstorm, Double ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Rainbow, Coalescence, etc.

RoR1 OST > RoR2's I agree and it's probably the consensus. It's definitely less memorable, there's nothing of the calibre of Dew Point, Moisture Deficit, Hailstorm or Coalescence (yet).

But I disagree that it doesn't fit the atmosphere of the game. At that, imho, it at least does a good job. You just have to accept that it's probably never gonna be RoR 1 again.

Glad other people agree on this, music in ror1 was the reason i played long runs just to chill with the music and meme builds. Here its like...pretty trash ngl

I agree, I actually like the RoR2 Soundtrack, but it's not the RoR1 soundtrack because that will always be the OG.

yeah it just doesn't give the same vibe at all. ROR1 soundtrack is just so lovely.

I listed to the soundtrack since it was first released and I slowly warmed up to it. Now I like it more than the first one. Both soundtracks are great, I find the one from the first game more easy to enjoy passively, but as a consequence it's also pretty simple and flat. The soundtrack from the second game has more nuance and subtle notes to it which I couldn't appreciate when I was hearing it in the game. I only did after I listed to it on my headphones in order to simply enjoy it. It feel like he put more thought into this one, and tried to experiment a little bit.

I try to get my hand on every vinyl release of Chris Christodoulou and so far, the deadbolt ost was such a blast and the best in my opinion it is not just electronic music, he added so much real played instrument in his electronic enviroment i really enjoyed the flow and difersity of this record.
I´m very happy with his music from ror II as well, but you are right it is not like the first ror, it is much more cinematic and like in deadbolt, it is one big thema what he breaks down in a lot of different pieces. I think it fits the new game much better because it is not a hitparade of music it´s like how it is in the movies an original soundtrack.

If I try to remember a song from RoR2, I end up thinking of a track from ror1 instead.

+1
Always ends up being Coalescence or the one track that plays on the stage 2 tile-set that's the really dark cave with a ton of mushroom enemies and ♥♥♥♥.

And I am on the other end of the spectrum. I can barely remember most tracks from RoR1 at this point, since I haven't played it for a long time and haven't listed to it regularly. On the contrary, RoR2 music stuck with me, and I can recall most songs in my mind with really good accuracy. Different people, different tastes.
