[Discussion] What is the most useless item?
For me it feels like medkit and crowbar is just useless.

I'd like to refer to the reply on #37.
I think a useless item is an item that no matter how many you have or don't have or the situation, it is never significant.

I think this gives us a good standard about "useless". But i think we should separate the case for late game and early game. There are some items doesn't help in late game but useful in early game.

Crowbar only give little bonus on damage for only 10% of enemy health. That makes me feel useless. Maybe it can be a good option for the Sniper class

Edit: It is my bad to think crowbar is not useful, because i often play as Engineer and doesn't have too great single hit damage. But as many of you has said, it is useful to those who good at one shot kill minions like MUL-T and Merc etc.

Edit: I agree that monster tooth is not quite useful as well. That is one of the item i often ignoring. I even forgot it does exist in this game. But some of you has said it can be helpful to Merc. I think if the heal amount is increased and collect automatically on drop will be much more helpful.

Edit: I add one score for Chronobauble, it doesn't seems help much. And stacking it is quite pointless because most of us have RoF faster than 1/sec.

Edit: Many of you guys suggests Rusted keys are one of the useless item. So i put it here. And i do think it is not useful in many case. Even if as someone said stacking it can give you better chance to get loot from a free box, that still feels terrible to take some useless thing and "get a chance" to get items later. Also searching for that box is painful

Edit: I tried to take some extra caution about the locked box (not searching every corner to look for it, just walk around as usual but pay more attention to that little black box) and i'm about to find it in about half of the level. Not a large help but i think it can be considered as a good extra income. However, when the difficulty arise, the extra light effect and chaotic surrounding make it harder to find.


Edit:Someone said tri-dagger is poor, I think it is a good damage buff but just not significant enough in late game. So It is not useless just not good enough.

Edit: I'd like to add the stealth kit in the discussion. It doesn't help a lot for me. But i'm not sure how do you guys think.

Edit:Wake of the Vultures is one of the item i didn't familiar with, but yes i have get it and it halved my health once. I'll agree it is poor and doesn't deserve a red rarity.

Medkit is not useful for me as the amount healed is too low and have a large delay. I never get a positive outcome from it (i.e. the healed amount is more than damage taken).

whips (move much faster when out of combat). It helps a lot when you get first few of it. But when it stack too much it just make your control harder, and not very useful as you can hardly get out of combat in late game.

I don't know what do you guys feel. Please share your ideas so i can get some advice. I will add what i see and think reasonable here.

Rusty key is a waste of money unless the box is made a little more visible. The items you listed are pretty great.

A single crowbar already makes a difference between needing one or two hits from the Merc's dash attack to kill trash.

The whip is wonderful for engineer and artificer since they have zero movement abilities and are pretty slow.

The medkit I'm not sure about, but it prevents you from getting killed by small amounts of damage that might keep your HP regen from kicking in.

Crowbar is actually one of the stronger items, especially when paired with say the Royal Capcitor equipment item.

But to actually answer the question. I would say the item Rusty Key. the free chest in each subsequent stage is nice, but the rarity you get from the chest due to how many keys you get feels like its never adjusted, and you always have the same chance for whatever rarity like a small chest would have.

I wanna say that the monster tooth isn't that bad on the mercenary, but it doesn't heal for a lot. But you are killing a large volume of enemies. I'm torn on the thing. Sucks out loud for classes that want to stay away from the monsters though, that's for sure, which is most of them.

21+ bundle of fireworks (i don't know why my run decided to prioritize that item) sure it useful but it useless once you have no item to interact not to mention it will get you kick out of the blue portal shop

rusted key and medikit are the worst
medikit heal for 10 per stack after you get dmg
rusted key CAN be good when you find the chests but when you search for them you lose time
crowbar is good with high dmg items

I have to agree with rusted key. It's hard to find the rusted lockbox and the keys can keep dropping. They could give subsequent rusted keys give some kind of bonus or just make it so anyone who opens a chest that already has a key can't get another one.

I hate getting rusted key as my first item but later on it's okay. And once you have more keys the odds of getting greens and reds just goes up.
Crowbar is really great for certain characters that can do a lot of damage in 1 hit like MUL-T's railgun, but mostly useful for popping wisps with certain abilities like bouncing glaive, merc's dash, and lightning orb.
But I do agree on monster tooth being the most useless, even when stacked, The ammount of healing it brings back on top of needing to kill something, it's just heavily outweighed by a single medkit.
But 3D printers have the potential to make any useless item more useful.

10 rusted keys in inventory and I still get whites. It's an awful item.

Monster tooth and that rare item jumping shackles. All it does is mess up items like wax quails and general movement, but at least you can do sick damage by instakilling yourself on blaze enemies I guess.

Anyone saying crowbar or whip is a moron.

I routinely have 6 of the thing and I never see anything better than a green. Agreed.

As for the whip I don't get all the hate. Whip plus slugs can be pretty handy.
