Official DMC HD Collection Bug Reporting Thread
”Let’s rock, baby!” – Dante, Devil May Cry

We hope you’re all enjoying or will be enjoying Devil May Cry HD Collection shortly! While we hope all of our fans will have a great time with the game, there will always be some cases here and there where the game may not function correctly under certain environments and / or hardware combinations. With that said, we’ve set up this feedback thread for you all to share any technical issues you may be having with the game. We’ll use this thread as a central repository for tracking these problems, and pass on the information gathered here to the development team so they can investigate and work on a fix.

Before providing any reports, please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam or the game’s files:

1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the game’s Steam Store page; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

Please note that some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom.

If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or ATI’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already.

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception / exclusion list
Some issues with running the game may be attributed to certain Anti-Virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders below to the Anti-virus and Firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue.

Note: to quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.

dmc1.exe / dmc2.exe / dmc3.exe / dmcLauncher.exe:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry HD Collection

Steam.exe:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please visit one of the following links:
  1. Windows Defender[support.microsoft.com]
  2. Microsoft Security Essentials[answers.microsoft.com]
  3. Malwarebytes[www.malwarebytes.com]
  4. Avast Antivirus[www.avast.com]
  5. AVG Antivirus[support.avg.com]
  6. Kaspersky Anti-Virus[support.kaspersky.com]
  7. Webroot SecureAnywhere[www5.nohold.net]
  8. McAfee Antivirus (Steam Support guide)
  9. Bitdefender*[www.bitdefender.com]
*Please note that for Bitdefender, you will need to also add the dmc1.exe / dmc2.exe / dmc3.exe / dmcLauncher.exe files to the program’s Whitelist. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Bitdefender
  2. Go to the Protection tab
  3. Click “View Feature”
  4. Click the gear icon inside the “Advanced Thread Defense” box
  5. Select “Add applications to the whitelist”
  6. Browse and navigate to the dmc1.exe / dmc2.exe / dmc3.exe / dmcLauncher.exe files:
  7. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry HD Collection
  8. Once each .exe is added, close Bitdefender and relaunch the game

3. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the dmc1.exe / dmc2.exe / dmc3.exe / dmcLauncher.exe files in administrator mode as well.

Steam.exe location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe

dmc1.exe / dmc2.exe / dmc3.exe / dmcLauncher.exe locations:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry HD Collection

4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.

For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here[www.nvidia.com].
For the latest AMD drivers, click here[support.amd.com].

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience crash issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller[www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.

  1. Run DDU and uninstall old video driver.
  2. Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC.
  3. Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com] and reboot your PC.

IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.

6. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
To reiterate, some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops with dual GPUs, such as an Intel Integrated Graphics Processor and Nvidia Dedicated Graphics Card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.

If using a dual Nvidia / Intel GPU, follow these steps:

  1. Install the latest Intel integrated drivers[downloadcenter.intel.com]
  2. Reboot your PC
  3. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  4. Click 'Manage 3D Settings'
  5. Go to 'Program Settings' and then select ‘Devil May Cry HD Collection’ (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking 'Add')
  6. Scroll down to 'Power Management Mode'
  7. Set it to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' / ‘High Performance Processor’ instead of 'Adaptive'
  8. Close Nvidia Control Panel and launch Devil May Cry HD Collection

If using a dual AMD “Switchable Graphics” GPU, follow these steps:

  1. Open AMD Catalyst Control Center
  2. Under “Switchable Graphics”, select the High Performance section and select ‘Devil May Cry HD Collection’ (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking 'Browse')
  3. Click ‘Apply’
  4. Close AMD Catalyst Control Center and launch Devil May Cry HD Collection

Additionally, double-check your desktop / laptop’s power settings by performing the following:

  1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select Power Options
  4. Select “Change Plan Settings”
  5. Select “Change advanced power settings”
  6. From within the dropdown menu, select “High performance” and click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’
  7. Launch Devil May Cry HD Collection

7. Reinstall the Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package and Update DirectX
Reinstalling the game’s Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable file may also help resolve the problem. The installer for this file is located in the following location:

vc_redist.x64.exe & vc_redist.x86.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry HD Collection\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2015

We also recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer[www.microsoft.com].

6. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and launch Steam
  2. From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu.
  3. Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button.
  4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
  5. Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and / or replace the problematic files.

If you still experience visual / audio-related issues or crashes, please help the dev team by providing the detailed information below.

The more samples and data points we receive, the better we are able to narrow down and determine the root cause of these problems. Here’s what we need:

A) Your System Specs
1) CPU name & model
2) Name / model of the desktop or laptop (if available)
3) Graphics card / chip model and the amount of VRAM
4) Video driver version number
5) System memory size
6) OS version (Windows 7, 8, 10, 64-bit/32-bit, etc.)
7) Anti-virus software name and version
Please make special note in your specs if you are running Windows "N" and "K" editions that do not come with Windows Media Player.
A good deal of this information, such as the graphics card model and VRAM, are available by running a DxDiag report. For more information on how to run this report, click here.[www.fuzeqna.com]

B) Give as many details about your issue as possible
Please share your specific issue and the location(s) where you’re experiencing the issues – for example, if you’re having problems with the framerate, is it happening constantly, or is it during certain cutscenes, during gameplay, etc. The following information can greatly help as well:
- What area were you playing when the issue occurred?
- What were the characters doing when this issue occurred?
- Did the issue resolve itself when you rebooted the game?
- Please also attach any screenshots or video of your issue, preferably via a Dropbox[www.dropbox.com], Google Drive[www.google.com], or OneDrive[www.onedrive.live.com] link.

C) Detailed reproduction steps, if consistently reproducible
This step particularly is very useful for the development team. The more detailed info you can provide, the quicker the team can reproduce the error state and (hopefully) fix the issue.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Best Regards,

Capcom USA Customer Support

Wierd. I would need more info in this.
Hi, sorry for late reply, but this is about all the info I have on the actual issue. I have an NVIDIA 1060 GPU, AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-core CPU, 16GB of RAM and using an Xbox One elite controller (just incase this helps). Any help is appreciated I just want to play the games.

That seems to be a software issue. Have you tried reinstalling the redistribuable libraries (DirectX, vcredist)? A lot of issues and crashes can come from that.

Here's an excerpt from my review about a serious save game bug in DMC3

CAPCOM: PLEASE READ THIS

Please note that there's a glitch that will completely mess up your data for DMC3, making your save files unplayable and the game unplayable in general.

Here's how to trigger it:
Beat game with Dante on Normal (yellow) in slot 1
Clear Mission 2 on Hard
save in slot 1
Start a Vergil game (yellow) on a separate save slot (2, in my case)
Play through the Vergil slot until Mission 10 end
Quit while in mission 11 as Vergil
Switch to Dante file
Load

This will invalidate your progress for Dante and mistakenly give him Darkslayer. Because he's not supposed to have that, the game will crash on mission start or earlier, effectively locking you out of your progress.

Additionally, the mission list for Dante is now as follows:
Easy 1
Normal 6
Hard 3

When previously, it was:
Easy 1
Normal 20
Hard 3
EDIT: Some additional information on the glitch after fiddling around:

-Vergil file is still playable
-Bloody Palace for Dante is also locked out due to the glitch
-Style progress for Dante has been reset to level 1 across the board.
-Switching to a different style in Customize does not rectify the crash, since the game still believes that it is loading a Vergil playthrough and must be crashing due to some kind of syntax error
- Creating a third save file while in the glitched Dante file makes it state Misson 02 HARD and wipes the clear logo when originally it said Mission 2 (CLEAR) HARD with the game clear logo.
-Starting a new game with dante, without doing ANYTHING else, gives me all previously unlocked difficulties and costumes, but sets everything back to mission 1 with nothing unlocked (as it should). Quitting out and going to the glitched save file does not clear the glitch
I can't skip the cutscenes. Is this how its supposed to be?

It's beyond broken, the entire series is effectively abandonware & I'll never support Capcom again... Between this & UMvC3 being ruined & a whole bunch of other brainbreaking bugs that shouldn't be there in the first place!?

Some fool in here keep's rinse & repeating the same waffle (we all know who, just read back through thread history) & there are no "fixes" nor will there ever be, it's broken at a fundamental coding level, if the developer abandons a project like this then it's basically dead from that point onwards.. Sadly...

So dissapointing to not even be able to play something I 1: purchased & 2: love... Oh well...

I have a problem that I can't seem to find anyone else having and, of course, no fix to. What's going on is I very often can't input more than 2 actions in the game at any time, regardless of which game I am in, making it an unnecessarily painful playing experience. Why do I say "very often"? Because sometimes I can input 3 actions at a time for some reason in certain cases. Best example - I can walk upwards diagonally (W + D or W + A) and jump(+K), but can't do the same downwards (S + D or S + A (+K)) and have to somehow do with only 2 inputs.
Ajaxe, check here (http://random.xem.us/rollover.html) if the problem is with your keyboard not accepting those combinations.
I have a problem with DMC 1. Second and third works correctly, but the first show me only black window and report me about error. :steamsad:

Yep. :C
Yeah, that's a global problem Capcom couldn't give a toss about.
Dmc 1gives you 4 yellow orbs when you first play. That is fine and all, except that there is no option to cancel using the orbs. You essentially either have to force close the game, or use the orb then exit to load screen to load your save file. This is very frustrating and pretty much pointless.

beat game on normal yellow - so far makes sense.
start new game and ONLY PLAY UP TO LEVEL 2 HARD..STARTING TO VERGE OFF INTO WIERDNESS HERE.
Abandon your hard game (assuming because you couldn't beat the first boss on hard mode and got cheesed off..and decide to play with vergil. this maeks a bit of sense.
Get to mission 10 on normal with Virgil. abandon this game immediately after mission 11 starts, and try to load your origionally hard mode file. Maybe after completing half the game on normal with virgil you felt inspired to go back to hard mode?

Doing all this : causes game to freeze and become unplayable.

Solution - don't do any of that stuff and take your ocd pills. Game doesn't really require this many save files. YOu can replay all the missions you have previously beaten in all unlocked difficulties. You therefore require 1 save file. If your objective of having a hard mode save file is so you don't have allt he upgrades when playing hard, then delete your normal save file as it is useless The only things you cannot do with one save file are switching characters and switching between gold and yellow.

When you beat the game, if you really don't wish to carry over any of your upgrades, delete your original save file. Problem solved.

With my Rysen 7, and Vega 64 DMC1.exe wouldn't open the fix so far seems to be to run it in borderless not Fullscreen.
Just posting this, I am unable to get DMC3 HD to work. Computer Specs Windows 10 Pro, Ryzem 7 2700x, 32gb RAM 2 Vega 64
Mr. 20 mart. 2019 la 15:08
Really awful visual artifacts around text in menus and subtitles in DMC3. These issues are not present in DMC1 or DMC2.

You can see the artifacts clearly displayed in these screenshots. [imgur.com]

Worse is that the artifacts dissappear, reappear and seem to move around.

Intel i5-8400
AMD RX Vega 56 8GB
Driver version 19.3.3 (most recent as of time of writing)
16GB DDR4 (2666) RAM
Windows 10 using the regular Windows Defender

EDIT: It seems running the game with Windows 7 compatibility mode completely fixes the problem.
