Does Anyone Else Miss the Original DMC3 Release Difficulty?
It's always bothered me how much easier the Special Edition is compared to the original launch version.

The English version of DMC3 basicly just removes the easy mode and called “Hard” Normal, and “Easy” was actually Normal.

So if you start a new game with Yellow Orbs and pick Hard that’s the same.

Fun fact: You can't start a fresh game on hard mode. You have to play all the way through at least once on normal.

Fun Fact: If you want to try out hard mode or even DMD mode with a ftresh save, you can use a cheat code to unlock all difficulty modes from the very begining. You just can't save normaly when using this cheat.

Yeah you have to beat the game to unlock the harder modes, but once you unlock a difficulty it's permanently unlocked, same with unlocked costume, so you can then start a fresh file on your desired difficulty, If someone wanted they can play DMD with a base Dante, or Vergil.

And it's not like rushing though Normal to unlock Hard is that big of a deal, it shouldn't take someone who's experienced with the game more then 2 hours.

OP said they "miss" something, someone correctly pointed out that it's still in the game, response is to switch complaints to how it isn't unlocked right away (and in a snarky tone no less). That's the definition of the Moving the Goalposts fallacy.

That said, Bison, I think saying just anyone experienced can beat the game in two hours is a bit of a stretch, since one would actually be top twenty in the world if they could do that XD

I guess I was thinking what the in game timer said when I rushed though the game before, which would have a decent difference between in game and real time.

But even then DMC isn’t the most commonly ran speed game, you say you would be top 20 beating the game in 2 hours but there is a whole 2 hour difference between 1st and 20th place on that list. 3 hours being 20th that’s plenty of time imo.

Hey now, I would say being in the Steam forums there is certain level of snark to be expected from time to time. :mhwgood: Although it was not my actual intention to be mean spirited with my follow up comment. Just opining on not having access to a non-Special Edition version of the game on PC (though I've always taken umbrage with the SE version in general even back on the PS2, because there's an air of laziness to the whole thing imo).

I do recall them mucking around with the original American release specifically back in the day. However it begs the question; if Normal was Hard Mode, wouldn't that naturally mean that Hard was in actuality Very Hard and DMD was on some other level that isn't present in the SE?

No DMD is the same, OG DMC3 only had Easy Normal Hard DMD.
America Hard is Very Hard in DMC3SE
But one thing that makes OG DMC3 seem so hard is being forced to use Yellow orbs. Most people never buy Yellows so that means restarting the entire level every death.

Ahhh, I see. Thanks for the clarification, that clears up some years of confusion on my end. All things considered though, I think we can all agree that true Devil Hunters never use replenishment items anyways, including yellow or even gold orbs for that matter. It isn't a true DMC experience if you aren't flailing yourself periodically, imho.

another hard thing in the og is that im pretty sure you dont unlock super dante until you beat DMD mode. where as in the SE version you get a semi super dante mode after beating very hard [OGs hard mode]

I think this is actually the third version of this game, because the original special edition had a port to windows pc back when it first came out, it was bundled with onimusha 3..which used to be on steam i think.. When they ported it to steam I think they might have made even more changes. O well, i have the original for ps2. As much as people like to claim it's the better version.. I honestly don't think it is. The special edition had new content. All gold orb and yellow orb mode are is the ability to have checkpoints. It's not really affecting the difficulty to be honest. Whether you die 100 times on a boss and get to restart at a check point, or die 100 times on a boss and have to spend 10 minutes getting back to the boss..it's the same difficulty that you picked to play on. Also, there's new features , new bosses, a new playable character and other changes.

Its pretty simple: Downloaded a save file on google from someone else who beat normal and start a new game from scratch on hard difficulty.
