Is it safe to mod this game?
It wants me to log into steam, is this safe? Has anyone else done this or do you just do it the harder way

Beatsaver is your best bet. Download Mod Assistant to add custom songs/maps and get them from Curated Maps and Verified Mappers. If you just click on anything then chances are it's just going to be a load of rubbish. Any website asking you to log into your Steam Account is risky tbh.

I was using BS manager, I’ve seen a few videos where they use those seems safe but can’t be sure

No turning back anyways but seems like there’s plenty of songs available at least for easy download

I second TheForestSpirit. Just use Mod Assistant, it works just as well or better than BSManager or any other tool, and doesn't ask for your steam credentials.

I use BSManager, it's uses the same steam auth system any other third party tool uses(you open the steam app on a phone to authorize your account through the qr code). It's safe. It lets you maintain a production branch(the current updated version) and it downloads an older branch you select for mods. So you can always switch back or try even older branches for some of the older songs that never got updated with newer kits(like the classic dual of the fates that had crazy tie fighter effects vs some of the newer songs that utilize chains and other features from more modern branches).
Did modding ever become easier?
I haven't tried in awhile, I'm playing with the same custom songs since like 2020.

You don't even need a third party program to add songs. Just download them from Beatsaver and extract the folder into the CustomLevels folder and you're good to go. Easy.

In my experience, 1.29.1 is the best version for modding. Download the Mod Assistant to install pretty much all the essential mods you'll need.

It's easy to mod it and it's safe from any type of viruses.
I had beatsaber modded for a good while and had no issues with it.
