At some point, the hardware itself just doesn't scale well. Phantom misses are even more common it seems. I'm not sure who they're catering toward with Expert +. Expert is hard enough to get SS on. It's not like people are capping out on points in Expert.
The beat no longer follows the blocks closely. There's so many blocks, in such odd positions that it is pure arm flailing at this point. It seems the cohesion is gone.
The beauty of Expert is that it's kind of easy to do, but really hard to master. Expert + is just masochism to even do. It's simply put, not fun to even try, unlike expert.
For the first time in Beat Saber, I'm not having fun. What are other people's thoughts on Expert +?
I don't really have an issue with the overcharting, but some of the notes are just poorly placed, and hitting them requires a very unnatural arm movement, so it kinda hampers the fun factor. They're not difficult, they're just very weird and easily throws you off (at least, that's the way I feel)
That's where I'm at. I'm by no means the best, but I was SS average except for about 3 songs before .12. Had numerous ones in the top 200. That being said, I avoided modded songs because I felt they were too inconsistent on the difficulty.
Now, though, it seems the core game has over done it. SUre, I'll get better, and I don't want this to seem like a whine, but honestly, there is very little joy now in doing the songs on Expert +. The most important factor being that it no longer feels in rhythm to the music. It's just blocks. Blocks everywhere, blocks for no reason other than to have blocks there.
After 20 seconds in $100 there is no consistency with the tempo. It completely devolves into a wild flailing excercise that , from my point of view, seems entirely reliant on memorization over tempo. I can't "feel" the music any more. Does that make sense?
The best thing about Expert was that it flowed extremely well. Expert+ has so many awkward transitions and odd note placements that it no longer feels like a rhythm game. Honestly, they feel like some of the worse custom charts I've tried.
I appreciate Expert+ needs to be very hard, but it feels like the maps were just thrown together with no thought to how they flow. I'll probably stick with Expert because I feel it's much more fun.
I'm also not a fan of how modifiers affect your score, but that's another issue altogether.
Of the 3 new expert+ songs I played last night, each was well above most of the modded expert+ in difficulty. That said, it's mainly because they're so foreign.. lots of crisscrossing and angled notes, which is rare even for mod songs. In the end it just takes practice.. my experience with beat saber is that everything becomes easy eventually, and before long I'll reach a whole new level of skill and want something even harder.
The thing that really surprised me though is how little the disappearing arrows option did to the difficulty. It made almost no difference whatsoever, even for the new tracks.
Overall, this update ruined the game for me, i will be changing my review.
If you spend a few minutes in practice mode you will learn the muscle memory and won't worry about thinking how to do these moves.
Every time I see posts about the E+ maps it's like practice mode doesn't exist at all tbh.
