How to create custom maps right now?

Hi sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I've been doing my best to search through google on how to make custom beat saber maps right now and the only thing I can find is the news article about the official level editor "coming soon". I know it's possible to create them, otherwise there wouldn't be any but I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction to get started creating.

First grab the Mod Manager from the Beat Saver website, use it to install the Song Loader and anything else you want:

Then head over to the Mapping Wiki to get an editor and check out some resources, most people are using MediocreMapper these days:

Would it be possible to make maps for the game without actually owning the game yourself?

Exco, you don't actually need the game to use the editor, but just make sure you join the Discord to get some people to play test it as it might be hard to tell what works well and what doesn't without actually playing it.

I have joined the discord yesterday, I just took an interest for map making - even though I don't own the game or even a VR headset. Thanks for answering, now I at least know I can try and mod around a bit.

If you know how to map, and don't mind explaining things about it, then I wouldn't mind jumping in discord with you - maybe you could teach me some of the basics of mapping. Besides, mapping a Hendrix song would be great!
