Portal 2
Do You Like Portal 1 or 2 Better?
I have both games, and they were pretty awesome. I like Portal, because it's more classic, but Portal 2 is longer and more adventurous. What's you're oppinion?

I prefer Portal 1. Portal 2 was a bit of a slog, Portal 1 was more compact and I preferred the humour. If Portal 2 had more Cave Johnson and less Wheatley I would have enjoyed it more.

i prefer #1 as well, but portal 2 was also more adventurous. i have to go with 1 for its classic game appearance.

Portal 2 better, because it has more detailed game environment and charismatic characters/ i think

I think both are as good as each other in their own ways.

I like them both but there's a subtle difference between them that made me feel slightly disappointed with Portal 2. Hopefully you will understand what I mean:

In Portal 1 there were these special made walls that you CANNOT shoot a portal on to. But in Portal 2 there are these special made walls that you CAN shoot a portal on to.

So it's just that it felt like you were allowed more freedom in Portal 1 while Portal 2 was a little more confined, which is ironic when you think about it.

I like Portal 2 better because the characters seem to be more defined than in Portal 1. It also shows a lot of the backstory for Aperture, GLaDOS, and to a lesser extent, Chell. I was not too fond of some of the original's advanced chambers, especially the first part of chamber 15 where you need very precise timing or sheer luck. I still like Portal 1 for its originality and the epic boss battle.

To tell you the truth portal 1 was nothing more then a (excuse the pun) experiment. Basically a proof of concept work. Portal 1 was short but a lot of fun with some challenging puzzles.

Story wise was great even if it was a little non-descriptive. Valve managed to tell a story with very little dialog save for Glados herself. Left you with a lot of questions which were both frustrating and alluring.

Portal 2 can really be considered the first full sized portal game in the series. It has so much more variables and options in a puzzle yet they somehow manage to make sure that there is only one real way to solve it usually. The difficulty and complexity of the puzzles also ramped up properly. You never felt like they moved you up to fast. With the new additions of light grids, all three of the gels, water, and other things I found it far more fun and less simplistic in nature.

Story wise it had quite a lot more dialog and characters while still managing to maintain the simplistic run of just one (at max two) characters interacting with you at once. They gave more details but still managed to leave us with some burning questions about chell, ratman, cave johnson, wheatley, and caroline.

I am going to have to give this to Portal 2. The game did what we loved in Portal 1 while still exploring new avenues and expanding on the portal universe.

Good question. They're very different games. Portal 1 was a lot more minimalistic. It made everything look very self-contained up until the big reveal at the end, and that's why it worked so spectacularly well. The boss battle with GLaDOS is one of the all-time best. Portal 1 also had a very dry, sarcastic sort of wit to it; the humor was subtle but hilarious. And GLaDOS's inane babbling at the end contains some of the best dialogue in video game history.

Portal 2 was just BIGGER. In every way. The comedy is less sarcastic and subtle and more laugh-out-loud funny (with some sarcasm thrown in). Unlike Portal 1, you really get to stretch and EXPLORE the facility. There's a ton to see everywhere you go. Portal 1 kept you interested by keeping secrets; Portal 2 kept you interested by allowing you to see EVERYTHING.

While the character arc of GLaDOS in the original Portal is brilliant in and of itself, Portal 2 had THREE main characters, ALL of whom had complex and brilliantly written character development. And amazingly, the dialogue and voice acting of Wheatley and Cave was so damn good that they actually weren't even overshadowed by the wonderful Ellen McLain as GLaDOS. And that's saying a LOT. McLain deserves awards for her work in Portal.

And finally, while Portal 1 had the better boss battle, Portal 2 had the portal to the moon. That is one of my favorite video game moments EVER. Just pure genius.

It really depends on what you like. Do you like short games that keep an air of mystery about them and fool you with spectacularly successful reveals and twists? Or do you prefer something much larger but a little bit more conventional in terms of structure, but with more characters and character development and a different, more brazen brand of humor?

All of that said, gun to my head...I'd take Portal 2. 2 things put it over the top for me:

1) Portal to the moon. Genius.

2) The co-op. Oh, man, the co-op. Best co-op video game of all time? I think so.

Also, the Perpetual Testing Initiative is insanely awesome.

Portal is MEANT to leave you curious in the beginning. Portal 2 is sort of where you find out everything.

1 because it was harder

It's kind of hard to look at the first Portal in terms of being an entire game. It was really more of a proof of concept, albeit an incredibly fun and successful one and one which I enjoyed immensely. What i love about 2, though, is that it took everything great and innovative from the first one and expanded it into a full-length game, and it didn't even lose any of the original's quality — at least I think it didn't. The second one had just as much innovation and fun as the original but added tight, top-notch writing and story. Portal was great, but Portal 2 was astounding.

Portal 2 More story.

Portal one had the really creepy feel which I like, but portal 2 has a very dynamic and stunning environment. It's behind the scenes style was simply amazing and much better than portal one.

For the puzzles, I like how portal one had you navigating a test with changing elements using portals, but portal 2 required a lot more logical thinking, and when you got that "Aha!" moment, it felt much better.

Overall, they are very different games, but in the end, I like portal 2 better.

I have them both, but I like the original Portal a bit more, the story line was just fine but a bit short, though the graphics was looking too smooth, I can't complain about that but some times was looking too clean to me, challenges was a bit hard for me, I would like to reply it once more time! It is a classic game!

And I really enjoyed the Portal 2 game, story was a bit longer and love the Wheatley character, he's got an awesome voice! Graphics and visuals was much better, with additional elements, puzzles styles and of course Coop part it just made a game with a lot of fun! I wish if Coop part had a story with Wheatley, he's really missing in Coop...beside what it is make it amazing is creating test chambers by our own, it is just amazed me to see myriad of custom maps, it just made it for fun!
