She said she was able to over come that part of the system, she was just in it for the testing.

She is testing because she was made partially to foward Aperture and beat Black Mesa in the race for portal technology.

GLaDOS couldn't be testing their products as she isolated the facility upon awakening. I believe that Carolyn acted as her instinct and she worked for Cave Johnson. It was Cave Johnson who wanted to sell things and therefore Carolyn would have the same goal. I believe GLaDOS didn't sell to anyone shortly after she woke up in Portal 1. It is my belief that was the time that the Combine invaded or at least shortly after. (Spoiler alert ahead) At the end of the game GLaDOS deletes Carolyn therefore removing her instinct to sell. We see the boxes of the turrets clearly for public use right? I mean how could it be. Keep in mind however that the personality cores stay awake in almost any circumstance. So it's not unlikely that GLaDOS set up a local economy. We hear things from the nanobots about jobs and pay and firing. Therefore I retract my original statement. I suppose it does make sense that she would be selling her things. After Carolyn was deleted though I'm not certain how GLaDOS proceeded.


I also wanted to talk about how the 3 main characters, Wheatley, Chell, and GLaDOS all went their separate ways at the end of the game. If I were to make a 3rd portal game it would be GLaDOS calling Chell back to help her fix something in the facility. I don't think that there will be a portal 3. Portal 2 ended it pretty well.
