How the hell do you play this game???

I just downloaded this to play with my boyfriend and we started the online co-op but have no idea what we're doing and there's this really annoying screeching noise? I've never used steam to play games before x( or ever played a portal game.

Before jumping into co-op you might want to try playing single player first. It will help you get aquainted with the game mechanics.

What's the screeching noise? and yes, please play at least the first few levels, they take ten minutes and feel like one.

I'd play single player first. But here are some tips : left click for one portal, right click for another. The two portals are different colours--go through one, come out the other. You can only put them on white walls.

I'm not sure about the screaching noise, but an easy way of getting used to the game it to just play single-player for a little bit since it comes with a tutorial for begginers. And @_Kaigames_ and @CLAUDIU don't be abelist jerks towards someone who hasn't played Portal before, remember; we were ALL noobs once.

As everyone else says... play the single player for a while before jumping into coop. Play til you have aquired the dual portal gun(able to place both blue and orange portals).. and then play a few test chambers past that.. then you should have a healthy grasp on whats going on.

Play Portal and then Portal 2 and the Portal 2 co-op and then the Half-Life games. Please. Christ...

the screeching sound may be due to voice chat; i had the same problem. in the sound settings try enabling 'push to talk'.

Or you can disable ingame chat entirely and chat over the phone or via skype.

I second that except I would suggest completing the single player campaign all together. There is a game mechanic that you really need to understand before attempting the campaign. I would also like to suggest that if you have never played Portal before that you purchase 2 copies of the original Portal and play that through first - although Portal 2 does an excellent job of introducing all the game play concepts and mechanics on a very gentle learning curve.

I am playing single player right now and learning the game, but it hasn't explained anything I saw in co-op. What does the eyeball mean for that F-controlled laser? and the timer? etc. Is there a place I can look up definitions for these?
