I am not going to argue against what you consider fun, but you may want to consider this.
You are playing commentary mode, which implies, that you are interested in the behind the scenes stuff. I also assume, that you know the single player mode well, at this point. Using no clip gives you the chance to look at thinks you are not supposed to look at, or at least from new different angles. Allowing you to get new insights, into how things were build, both aesthetically and technically.
Maybe you can somehow override it in the console
-start a chapter in normal mode
- enter 'commentary 1' in the console.
The commentary will become available after the next map change, and you keep the ability to save the game.
You'd miss the commentary on the first map, but you could play it in the developer mode first and then once more as described above
Follow up the 'commentary 1' with a 'reload map' command, and you'll have commentary nodes with full save function from the very beginning.
