Will We Play as the Outsider?

So the cannon for Dishonored has always been the low-chaos approach (i.e. don't kill your target). Based on the transition from Corvo to Daud to Emily to Billy, do you think the next main character will be the Outsider himself?

It appears Hines is saying that there simply isn't an idea for another Dishonored game at the moment, and that there is no massive sales driving a need for an idea. In other words, if there is an idea, which Bethesda thinks is good, it will return. But for now, Arkane Studios is focusing on other things.

That's disheartening. I've enjoyed Dishonored for over a decade and loved the last 3 titles. I hope Arkane returns to it.

They have said that all the current characters are done, I think this includes the Outsider.

This story is done. I would love to see a new story with the same game mechanics though.

None of this rules out perhaps prequel stories. Bringing back the Outsider would not be a violation. Maybe it would be interesting to see the world before 'the plague'. Maybe in fact
the plague is one of many consequences of an earlier adventurer. Imagine if they redid the steampunk/post-apocalyptic imagery and went pre-apocalyptic!

I think it would be cool to call a whale from the void and drop it on someone.

...but why? The Outsider is dead, be it old age or killed by Lurk. He's not tuned with Void magics regardless of the ending of DOTO. Also, he's just some street kid abused and victimized - he's not a trained assassin or vagabond. It would be incredibly boring to play him (apart from probably hearing him talk about the world through the perspective of a 4000 year old man).

They weren't happy with the game's sales. Dishonored 2 deserved to be GOTY but even garbage like Dark Souls 3 got higher ratings so they ended the franchise with a quick spin off and moved on.

Even if there was another game, I don't think that the lore we've seen so far would permit playing as the Outsider.

I agree with earlier comments that a prequel would permit this, should the lore allow it but does it? I think not.

We learned in DotO that the outsider was snatched as a kid and made into a god by the use of the void blade. His physical form is trapped in the void like a statue. He only appears in visions to give the mark or 'bless' someone with powers. that wouldn't make for a good game!

It's a shame that other games aren't likely. I think a game centred around earlier events would have been good, just to complete the story.

I totally loved the whole Dishonored series.

The way they ended this game clearly left scope for another game set after the events of DotO.

And who told you this? Nothing in the Dishonored franchise has said that they'd lose their powers. The ending sequence for Death of the Outsider shows Billy Lurk with her void arm; despite the outsider being free.

Corvo is no longer marked.
The state of Emily's power's are uncertain.
Daud is dead and his spirit went into oblivion.(Destroyed, considered a good thing in the Dishonored world since the alternative is what you see at the center of the void until you get get consumed by it.
Billy is probably done with all void related stuff.

The Outsider probably will try and live a normal life and the Cult of the Outsider will likely come back together and find a replacement. (Hopefully)

The void and the cult existed before the Outsider and no doubt continues to exist after. One thing that still puzzles me after completing DOTO; in DH2, how and why did Billie regain her own arm and eye if you chose to save Aramis Stilton?
