Sure, there are some anomalies where they're not used in a genuine way but that doesn't negate the majority of cases where they are very much valuable to many players' decision on whether they want to give this company their money or not.
This isn't a case of "review bombing" either and there are also valid reasons why they do happen. It's mostly when companies ♥♥♥♥ over their consumers so, that's the only way they can send a message that hits them.
You're intentionally being dishonest here as you're ignoring the fact that the devs engaged in anti-consumer business practices so, this issue goes beyond just "reviewing the DLC".
You can bring up whatever "professional reviews" you want to but, most like-minded players who value about companies treating their players right will generally value player reviews more which is also the reason people demand it to be a feature in other gaming platforms.
Just one of such comment may not show anything but add that up with all the other reviews and you'll notice a pattern of people being disappointed and upset for a valid reason that you clearly are aware of but you choose to ignore it and even downplay it by implying as if the issue is only about "there's no sex" or as if the sexual aspect of the game is not important.
Like some user said in another thread, It's like if Rockstar Games released a DLC full of cool cars and weapons but the twist is, you don't get to drive those cars or shoot those guns. People would be rightfully upset especially if Rockstar falsely advertised and misled people into expecting something that was never going to be there.
A "professional review" can go on a detailed rant about how good they look and is useful for cosmetic purpose but they don't really discuss the point that actually matters.
I don't know about your country, but in mine there are strict rules for that.
If a review gets paid, it needs to be labeled as advertisment in the review.
Every one who doesn't follow this rule risks getting fined and -more important- losing its reputation.
No, I'm objectively right.
I'm long enough in the business in order to recognize review bombings if there is one.
That's nothing new on steam.
Games get review bombed for trifles like just showing a tibetian flag, a rainbow flag or - like in this case - a IRL celebrity, that for obvoius reasons doesn't put off her clothes.
The only ting I can the dev reproach for is their communication about this DLC.
That's been a total mess.
They should have known that their game is also played by some horny, short-minded people who foolishly thought they might bang an IRL celebrity in the same way like the other, fictional characters in the game.
So even this game was not oiriginally intented as being a porn game but an adventure game using explezit content, they should have considered that their game's attracting a special kind of people and therefore they should be more clear in advance.
Although I doubt that would have make a huge difference in the outcome.
And what exact "anti-consumer-practices" would that be?
You're just making accusions but you don't get precise nor do you offer any sources for that.
The only pattern I see is people ranting because of Doja not being naked.
And all of them ignore the fact that this DLC has still a lot to offer.
Do you even know what a real actually review is and what a proper one should contain?
A review starts with a NEUTRAL description of the game and its technical condition, followed by list of pros and cons and ending with a final verdict that reflects the editor personal opinion.
That's how reviews work and people can work with.
What we see in the review section is ranting(or gloriyfiying), not reviewing.
That's neither constructive nor do they offer any information about the DLC besides Doja not being naked.
Sorry are you talking about the gaming industry? the same industry that has NO regulatory body? no industry regulations or minimal standards? the same industry that allows "Early Access" projects to just disappear without any repercussion? the same industry where companies lie ALL THE TIME about the state of their games prior to release and then continue right up to point of sale and beyond?
Is that the Industry you are talking about? or are you just having your own little fantasy that it is somehow different?
Oh and just out of curiosity who do you think is qualifying all these reviews as legit? the special review police?
"In our country there are strict rules for that"
I am sure there are also likely strict rules against murdering someone and rape? but answer me does it still happen in your country oh naive one?
dude, your tinfoil hat is apparently sitting way to narrow.
How about you trying to look beyond the box?
Sure thing, the entire game biz is nothing but a bunch crooks and bla, bla, bla.
That might apply to some majors who actually have the power and budged for this, but pretty much not for indie studios who need to watch every penny they spent.
So according to your murderer-example and your logics everyone shouldn't leave their houses any more because they are going to get mugged once they reach the next corner?
Dude... really?
If so, why do you still bother playing games? Or even better: Why not making your own games that turn this to a better world in your eyes.
That's called common sense and there are studies for that.
A good review provides informations that enables as many people as possible of getting their OWN impression and enable them having their OWN thoughts about it..
In order to achive this it needs to be written in an objective way covering both the good and the downsides of a game.
Most steam "reviews" are mostly one-sided and don't offer much useful information.
They are just rants, so they are useless.
As said: Ranting is not reviewing

Keep playing semantics around review bombing but regardless, the point still stands no matter how hard you try to come up with excuses to try to derail the topic solely to justify the wrongdoings of the dev. Not going to further entertain your pointless nonsense that is irrelevant to the dev's actions with how they handled the ♥♥♥♥ DLC.
I can imagine why people are dissappointed and why they had another expectation.
And I defenitely see the devs responsible for the misscommunication about this update.
Although they stated “the Explicit Content Add-On does not add any Adult Only rated content to this DLC.”, they should have made it more clear in the forums as well.
On the other hand: if people would understand the game instead of focusing on the sex scenes only and if they would have informed themselves before actually buying the DLC,
it should have become clear that there are going to be some limits once it come to intimacy with Doja.
Therefore it's not the devs fault only.
Only a fool buys before getting himself informed.
Well, we are dissussing about an Eek-game here, right?
But defending the parasitic game journos reviews is not a good idea.
