Couple newbie questions
So I'm still playing through the story (I'm just skipping everything in the visual novel part) and I have a few questions about the gameplay.

1st: Is there any point to col? I seem to have a lot of it, am always getting more from quests, and I don't really have anything to spend it on. What am I missing?

2nd: I want to use a katana, but I only have a crappy one from the weaponsmith. I upgraded it a couple of times but it's still weak. Should i keep upgrading it or find a green or blue one? On that note, where would i look to find a higher quality katana?

3rd: I've heard about special skills you can unlock by doing...something. I think it has to do with my skills, but I'm not sure. I've noticed that I have a star besides one of my skills I use a lot. Is it related to that?

4th: How do i make a specific type of follower? For example, I want to have someone who will keep us buffed all the time with a bunch of buffs, a tank and a healer or damage dealer. I've seen the emotions, but I'm not sure how exactly that all works, the game is a little vague in the details. My buffer has yet to ever buff me that I can tell.

Sorry if these are obvious questions, I like the game but it's a little vague (at least to me).

I can't answer 1 because I'm still going through the story. The only "expensive" enhance I've seen was for the Wedding Dress. Still, I'm sitting at 400k+ right now..

2. I've found a few simply by going through each area once for the story and clearing whatever events were up at that time. You can check this list to see a list of items and how to obtain them(Katanas included): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18UsMotANQZ1WjzCEbew06ds3c2kbA_fHc3dQ8zoNREk/htmlview#

3. Each star increases the damage of the skill, up to 3 stars. 1 star requires 100 casts and increases the damage by 20%, 2 stars requires 1 000 casts and increases the damage by 50%. 3 stars requires 10 000 casts and increases the damage by 100%.

What you're talking are EX Skills: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1184183383

4. I'm not really sure how to make full use of the system, or atleast I currently don't care enough to look into it right now, but here's a link that might help you:

1- Enhancements and Transformation. High-end Enhancements cost well over 10k per enhancement. Other than that, there is little reason to save Col.

2- You can get a higher-grade Katana from certain chests that require you to kill higher-level trash mobs, though most of the time they will be purple. A bit later in the game, you can transform them into a blue-grade Katana with better stats. Alternatively, you can kill a specific HNM to get a green grade Katana with well over 200 ATK, which drops from the reaper HNM in Oldrobe Forest(can't remember the exact area right now).

3- Answered by Qelris above.

4- The follower system is a bit vague, but there are two things you can do.
A) View the emotions individually in the circle. Each emotion attributes to the likelihood of a partner doing a specific action, such as Warlike and Fiery making the NPC more aggressive/more likely to use skills. For buffs, you'll want to have either Nosy, Planner, Smart, or Crybaby. When an NPC does an action you want to raise, and shows the emotion desired, make sure to give them a Good Job. Giving Good Jobs raises the level of that emotion, as well as raise their overall affinity.
B) Once you've double-checked A, the next thing you do is press H on your keyboard to select which EX Skill the character will use. Since you want a partner to buff, have them use either Attacker, Tank, or Healer. Alternatively, as you unlock EX Skills(such as Warmonger, Rejuvenating touch, etc), you can also set those EX Skills on NPCs, but at a cost: NPCs change to special equipment when their EX Skill is maxed at 1000.0, which helps them gain a lot of stats and whatnot.

Awesome, really appreciate the replies. Going to check out that hidden ex skill guide right now.

1: You'll find yourself needing col a whole lot more mainly for equipment upgrades, and transforming legendary weapons. The best way to make money is to kill the HNMs and take their green weapons, as they sell for at least 5000 col each

2: wait until you can get hold of a Green one, or there's an Episode Quest at Oltrum Bastion that drops a Katana that you can evolve into a legendary. I advise taking the third route with Legendaries as you'll need them for Enigma Orders to transform it into a paragon If you're going the Katana way, I strongly advise you to to do 2-5 skill Sword Skill Connect chains to unlock Soaring Slash, a Katana-Focused Ex Skill with some pretty powerful Katana Sword Skills, and some of the most useful buffs in the game.

3: Those stars represent your mastery.
100 uses (1 Star) = Damage +20%
1000 uses (2 Stars) = Damage +50%
10000 uses (3 Stars) = Damage +100%
There are Sword Skills, Battle Skills and Extra Skills you can unlock, but Sword Skills and Battle Skills can be unlocked during the DLC chapters earliest

4: I never really properly figured out the emotion chart either, I just know that praising them is telling them that whatever they did, they're doing it right. I think somebody created an emotion guide somewhere out there.

I just found out about the Soaring Slash and wow..2000 skill combos just to unlock the first level! yikes. Do those have to be in combat? Or can I just sit against a wall or something?

I heard you don't have to hit anything for it to count. Although doing a chain of 1-5 skill connects counts as 1 chain. So yea, lot of grinding for that.
