what happened to Asuna?
So I tried to watch the anime (really i did!) but had to turn it off after Kirito called himself a "beater" died laughing at that part.

But the point is, I was thinking oh cool, Asuna is going to be this badass no nonsense type of character from her introduction, didn't need help, didn't really want help, but only teamed up because the boss was too much for even her.

Then I played the game and Asuna is basically an underaged passive wife who cooks and cleans for her husband and is constantly saying "oh no, i didn't do anything, it was all YOU Kirito!"

wtf happened to that badass in the 2nd episode?

What, a girl in love with a guy can't be a badass fighter still?

Hmm.
Drakzen Nov 5, 2017 @ 7:52pm
At the end of the Aincrad section she sadly gets demoted to damsel in distress and in the Gun Gale online portion she is barely in it at all. In mother's rosario she is how you discribe her in episode 1.

So what was fun about him being called a Beater ?
A beta tester and a cheater, that is not uncommon even today, the term Beater is being used nowdays, but before that was a word players are greedy and easily jealous on others especially on beta testers and when they know where to farm other players complain they don't teach others.

So i don't get what's fun with that ?

anyway, as far as the anime goes Asuna is the serious type most of the times, later in the anime Kirito is more serious and lots of stuff happens, so start watching again, the first couple episodes are slow but after that it gets better.

If english is not your first language, the term "Beater" could also mean "Wife Beater", among other things.

That's nonsense and you know it. Having played plenty of MMOs, I have NEVER seen the word "BEATER" being used publicly, nor have caught wind about the word. No one ever coined it up until SAO became a thing, and even then, NO ONE uses that word because of how stupid it sounds.

In the anime, yes. But if we're talking about reality, just because people don't tell you where to farm things doesn't make those people inherently bad, that just means you're not doing the necessary things to figure out where to efficiently farm. Complaining about people not spoon-feeding you is called being an "Entitled Brat".

Refer to the first part of my post. "BEATER" is a dumb word that entitled scrubs coined up for people who played before them.

You can skip episodes 4>8 And still get the idea on most of the stuff that happens. 4-8 just showcases the perks of marriage(sharing item boxes), Kirito being the token "Mary Sue" character(great at literally everything) and a harem god, and Kirito prepping up for Dual Wield.

The only time these episodes are relevant are:
Episode 9- Kirito kills The Gleam Eyes solo with Dual Blades.(When Dark Repulser is shown, the sword Lisbeth smithed for Kirito)
Episode 10/11- Kirito and Asuna get married(setting up for episode 14)
Episode 14- Asuna dies, and Kirito gains access to Lambent Light(Asuna's Rapier) to somehow finish off Heathcliff when he dies. (Storage sharing)

@Remilnelia™ summed up the "beater" part just perfectly expect when I heard beater I immediately thought of him "beating" something else :awkward:

I think it's just been too long since I've watched anime. I'm really enjoying the game, but the idea that Asuna and Kirito are married is a joke. I mean, they're literally at the stage where you say "oh, uhm, if you like, I could cook for you...hehe.. *blush* *look away*". If they're supposed to be old enough to get married, why the hell are they acting like 7th graders? And this bizarre "child" they have is just freaky. All the "momma" and "pappas" going on is just cringy.

that said, I know I'm not the audience for this anime, and that's fine. I enjoy the gameplay and the dating sim for some part is kind of hilarious (apparently you can date your sister..lol)

I know i probably sound like an SJW but I just like seeing badass characters that don't turn into a victim for the hero to save.
Lapinoire Nov 6, 2017 @ 3:14am
No matter how badass a character is, they could always use assistance.

Also yeah, play Hollow Realization for the game, not the story.

they are married in an online game for teenagers with an advanced (and discarded) IA as a child, how serious you want them to be?
Dex Nov 6, 2017 @ 3:48am
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I went down the rabbit hole and found 16.5. I'm done with this bizarre ass story. Think I'll just enjoy the game for the gameplay as Remilnelia suggested.

Many things you point out that is not true.
First Beater, sure it can be "wife beater" if you think of that, but beater is just a word so anyone can relate to that differently.
English isn't my main language from birth, but i use it everyday and have been doing so since 4 years of age.

And yeah, i have actually seen people calling others "Beater" in a couple online games ever since SAO was released so it is used but not too much, but still.

And many many gamers are jealous, that you can't deny even how much you try, and if you deny it you haven't played many mmo games.
I started playing games online since internet came out on the market for personal use in homes and let's just say that all internet activity was better back then.

But in the end anyone can use whatever words they want, i couldn't care less, beater sounds silly though because they are hardcore SAO fans and started using that kind of term.
And some even call themselves a beater for no reason, seen that in Tera Online to name one game.
Honestly the anime as a whole is pretty garbage. The problem I had with it is that the first 12 episodes or so are fantastic: it shows Kirito leveling up, exploring Aincrad, fighting mobs, making friends, ect... the typical MMO experience. After that it quickly spirals out of control into a harem so big it would make Rito Yuuki from To Love Ru jealous, and he only gets more girls as the series goes on.

If you're looking for some fairly decent MMO anime, you should try: Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungen?, Overlord, .hack, and Log Horizon. All much better than SAO. Just play the game for the gameplay and avoid the story, it's one giant harem fest.

Yea, I loved .hack from the ps2 days so I picked up the new ones. Haven't started it yet because I wanted to check this out.

You're so right about the harem, I mean, even npcs are becoming part of my harem. No joke, my main character just promised to protect a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ npc. Seriously? Who the hell cares about an npc? I hope this isn't the big danger going on in the game world because it's awful lol. At least the original premise of SAO had some real threat, however ridiculous it was.
Toxvil Nov 6, 2017 @ 6:28am
From your first post, you seem to want a character that's a loner and strong lol. In reality, its hard to be that way, denying any assistance. And I wouldn't call that badass (opinion). Asuna met people and that's how she changed. My only explanation to that would be that we never really knew her at the start. You only open up to someone after spending time with them right? Plus another huge factor was that it was a matter of life and death in the first part. Not so much now.

I don't know if you have watched the latest season of sao where she played a more important role than Kirito. She was just as good there as she was in the episodes you mentioned, I think. Forgive me if I get things wrong, its been a while since I watched it >.>

And well, I enjoyed SAO and all other animes Chibi Vampire mentioned. I didn't dislike SAO even after that. Each has a different place for me. Opinions and taste I guess.

P.S Dex, whys your steam level 0? Did you just create this account to post this? :P j/k lol

Uh, yeah, then if you understand that, why does it bother you that Dex found the term "BEATER" funny?

What do you not understand by this? Only teens that like SAO without thinking about how stupid it sounds to say "BEATER" use the word in MMOs, any self-respecting gamer wouldn't even say that unless it was for a joke.

Do you see me denying that gamers are jealous? I don't. I'm saying that the characters that called Kirito a "Beater" are all entitled brats. Just because someone has more experience than you doesn't mean they're a cheater, they've, well, you know... HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE, OR EXPERIENCE in other words. In literally any game i've ever played, the majority of players look up to experienced players, beta players or just veterans in general. Being jealous is just being stupid/petty, and unfortunately, that's how half the community tends to be in any MMO.

You sure about that? Trolling and catfishing have always been a thing, and it was much, MUCH worse back in the day. The only reason it didn't seem as bad back then as it is today is because the internet is more accessible to everyone.

You know what many other people call those kinds of people? "Weebs", in short.
