I did something similar to prevent my bots from firing when I wanted to sneak past baby mollochs without annoying the parents, just wire the triggers through the relay and it's easy peasy to toggle them on or off. The bots still think they're firing but we know they're not!
Turret lights can be piped through relays too for easy 'dark' mode, not that I think that sort of thing really makes a lot of difference in real terms mind you, monsters with keen eyes seem to see me before I see them regardless.
Wire one of the nav console buttons to the 'Toggle State' input of a relay component. Now any wires (e.g. periscope trigger) you put through that relay to a turret (e.g. trigger in) can be toggled on or off with that nav console button. It will require some diving and wire placement through the outer shell but that should be easy enough to do.
I managed it! And the nav terminal even got a new button, but sadly it seems I can't rename it só it's just called output_something #2
Congrats! Yeah it's annoying that there's no in-game method to rename the nav console buttons, you'd probably be able to do it by editing the submarine file contained in the save game file once you unpacked them (using a save file unpack/repack tool). Bit risky doing anything with the save file though IMO, I never bother.
