Retirement!
After completing the campaign for the first time, you have the option to start over (as usual), or, utilizing your political influence (if there enough) and wealth (shouldn't be a problem, see above) build your own outpost and manage it. Your standings will determine the list of available options faction-wise, while neutral and possibly pirates being available always.
And, when you fail or get bored, you gather your old crew (whoever is still alive), undock your rusty sub and go to the center again.
