Too much like SS13, this game can be its own thing.
There will naturally be actions where consequence only goes in one direction.
Most are reversible. You can even bring back a sub after a reactor meltdown.
If you handcuff yourself you could just, y'know, ask somebody to uncuff you.
If you were trying to be traiterous and F'd up, or even good and F'd up the item hotkey/click, its really indiscriminate. Cuffing yourself ultimately rests upon you.
Just be more careful about how you move and use cuffs. I sacrifice an inventory quickslot to deliberately leave a full space between handcuffs and anything else. I know the price of the misclicks on cuffs, including with mudraptors. Toolboxes are great for safe storage, and keeping them hidden in general. Having them activate with the number hotkey is agreeably a pain in the ass though. Would be good it if were from only clicking the green tab above it on the hotkey list.
But breaking out from restraints should be in, the whole aspect of jailbreaks is fantastic and adds to paranoia, drives a further need for disguise use. I did not really dig escaping in ss13 though. In SS13 you didn't need items to get out from cuffs, and that was far too easy. You just pressed/clicked the action, hang out for a minute because sec is off dealing with other nonsense, and boom cuff free.
To contribute a thought:
How about: the person handcuffed can still right-click aim: empty hands cuffed together, arms outstretch. You begin escape by crouching to tuck your legs, and aim/swing the arms under and around your feet to first get them in front. Both cuffed hands combined can handle a one-hand (small) item. Acquire a screwdriver♥♥♥♥♥♥♥handgun, and then you can pick/break the cuffs open. Being able to choke players with cuffs would make it more viable for getting your first tool.
