[Singleplayer] Accidental friendly fire = Security bots go on a rampage
Security bots shouldn't relentlessly try to relentlessly beat you to a pulp for accidentally tagging them with a bullet or welding torch.

A "stand down" order of some sort might come in handy too.

That stands in direct contradiction to their behaviour of acting when being attacked. Imagine you hurt someone and they resist - would it make sense for them to stand down when ordered? Certainly not.

Having that behaviour deactivated in single player makes more sense to begin with.

If a friend accidentally hits you in multiplayer during the chaos of combat and they say sorry, do you shoot back at them until they die? Or do you forgive them and continue with the mission?

What I'm saying is, is that there should be measures in place to stop a security bot from going nuts when 1 point of damage is accidentally dealt to another character.

Normally you can hold space and the bots will stop after cuffing you.

While it's really the only thing we have, it's annoying to deal with in many situations. ((Not to mention the game never really tells you that plainly. It should be a tutorial popup at least.))
For example, in my most recent round I fired a railgun upwards at an incoming swarm, but it missed and eventually came back and hit the sub. This then caused the security bot to immediately stop fighting the swarm, getting off his gun so he could run up to the bridge and knock out the captain, all while i'm trying to keep a hull breach under control.

Look, thanks for the info, but i'm not trying to shoot you down. And I'm glad you offered advice. I made this post in the hopes that the devs would consider it an issue and would work towards a fix. And while the security bot AI would make sense in a MP game with traitors, it doesn't belong in singleplayer.
When a player feels it's better to hire assistants for combat purposes rather than security officers, there's a problem.

((Also if a forum mod sees this, is it possible to move this to the suggestions subforum instead? I thought I had made this post there, but I must've clicked on this forum instead))

Why are you being hostile?

I am not, though I consider your question offensive.

The issue is that people expect bots to function as perfect drones that do whatever is optimal to the player. Which they should. Unfortunately, they sometimes act as people actually would in those circumstances. Like arresting someone if they shoot somebody else. It's just that the extent to which they follow this realistic behaviour is extreme. And since they follow it so extremely, it ends up being annoying and disruptive.

The function should be reserved for arresting non-players. It's very rare for them to accidentally put bullets in other people. As a good bot should.
