Report a translation problem
my specs are:
AMD ryzen 5 3400u
8GB ram
Vega 8 2GB vram
im getting 20-15 fps generally
all my settings are low.
not sure what the problem is
the thing is i use to have a toshiba with intel hd graphics and i didnt have these problems. I even made a sub that ran well on the toshiba but when i brought it to my AMD devices the frames just dropped. plz help
What about reducing some settings, like turning off VSYNC, set particles limit to 20 and light resolution to 0. Do they not help?
6 gb ram
and dual core processor 2.4 ghs
and had no frame problems
the laptop litterally was 10 years old and it ran barotrauma 30 fps minimum
this laptop is probly leagues better than the intel hd graphics and im getting maximum 15 fps on lowest settings.
this version of the games i have been getting lots of errors and game crashes and im not the only one.
aorus gtx 1070
Ram 16 gb
I think it's quite enough for this game
Hi, I can try to help, but as you pointed out, there's been some people who had frame rate issues since Among the Ancients. I guess it's due to the game having more and more content. I reckon the dev team are well aware of this at the moment.
I would first compare your friend's PC specs with the recommended specs on the store page. It's possible that over time the listed specs are a bit out of date, but I think only a dev could confirm this. I would think that if she meets the required specs, she shouldn't be having frame rate issues, especially not on the Orca since it's a rather small submarine.
I guess I could offer some tips, some which may seem obvious but here goes nothing.
First, I would make sure her PC isn't running too many apps while playing. Turning unnecessary apps off could help. Maybe there's some apps that launch automatically at startup that your friend could turn off. Chat programs, video recording softwares and more can have a real impact on your game if your PC can barely meet a game's specs.
Also, I'm assuming it's no news for anyone, but I'd better say it just in case it can help: the more data a computer contains, the slower it gets. It's not noticeable day-by-day but if you have formatted your computer before, you know how much of a difference it makes when you start over. I would recommend to have at least 3/4 free storage space on the HDD that contains your friend's operating system. If she has a partition specifically designed for her OS ( normally, it's C:\ ), that's excellent, and she shouldn't install anything else on it and save it only for her OS apps and files. The more files you store on that specific disc, the slower the loading times. It can have an impact on your games. It has less of an impact if you put your things in another partition ( for most people, it's D:\ ).
Finally, maybe she could try running the game in different screen formats. First I would try windowed mode. I think I remember some users saying they saw a difference between fullscreen and borderless windowed mode - some said one was better, others said the opposite.
Thanks a lot, The Flaming Pike!
For the tips as well for the merging of the threads.
I think the latter is great for helping others in the same situation!
She just reinstalled her OS (Windows 10 Home) from HDD to a new SSD last week, after having many issues with the game War Thunder. It helped a lot with that game, after having her OS HDD piled up stuff for over four years. Her graphics card is like mine, a Geforce somewhat with 6 GB. I am having in comparison no troubles, but then I have 24 GB which is significantly more. We tried her having all other apps turned off, but that did not change anything since she had it before. Though it is not all apps ~ she says the game, the Steam client and discord which we use are the only apparent things running. I try to have her TuneUp Utilities running which I have good experience with, but she is reluctant...
I did not think of the idea that the system's minimum requirement might have changed with an update. That would actually explain a lot! But then it would be indeed be the RAM which is the only thing left in the list which might cause issues.
We keep trying and I shall (hopefully remember and!) update this thread if we manage to change something!
Thankfully she too is enjoying the game so much that she is not thinking of quitting because of the issues!
One thing I am going to check but yet unsure how: she has an integrated graphics card too. But I cannot imagine the game is using that instead of her actual graphics card...
This is actually a known issue that can happen to some (Currently I've only seen it with Nvidia graphics cards), so I do also recommend checking that the game is actually utilizing the external GPU instead of the internal.
Couple known performance issues from the top of my head are
1. Repairing navigation terminal above 100% with a talent causes the navigation terminal overdraw the sonar image, which is known to cause a very heavy impact on performance.
2. Using navigation terminal in the abyss whilst you are doing a mission which adds mission markers to the sonar can cause major FPS drops because the navigation terminal isn't able to properly get a path to the markers position in order to get the distance to the marker and when this happens it tries to do it too often which leads to the performance impact.
But both of those cases only happen to players who utilizes the navigation terminal. There can still be some performance issues we haven't caught yet, but so far we've been able to fix the issues we know of.
Considering I do not know much about computers and programming - is there an easy way for me and my friend to check which graphics card is used?
Update: going to check this out for determine that the GPU usage is correct: https://www.howtogeek.com/351522/how-to-choose-which-gpu-a-game-uses-on-windows-10/
I will keep watch with the other cases, but for now I can tell with utmost certainty that the other issues do not apply to her. She plays mostly engineer and medic, and stays always far away from the navigation terminal. I think she never actually steered the ship yet.
Update: checked the GPU usage with her - it works as intended with her graphics card. So no chance there. :-/
(yet I guess the tip is still helpful for everyone else who check this thread with similar issues)
Update fun fact: I applied the tip on myself, and despite everything was in order for me before, it seems to have improved my own FPS very slightly ^o^?
What I did: Settings -> Display -> Graphics Settings -> Selecting Barotrauma to run as high performance app with main graphics card.
Maybe it is just imagination, since I only have one graphics card and it shows for low performance and high performance the one and same option.
And another update to avoid "double postings" ~
Added a list to the starter post for other players to easy access eventually helpful information. What we (me and my friend) did so far:
Turn off vertical sync
Set particle limit to 20 and less
Set lightning resolution to 0
Use fullscreen
Set game to use graphics card in high performance mode (Windows 10 Settings -> Display -> Graphics Settings -> Select App Barotrauma -> Select Mode)
Increase game's priority in task manager to "high"
Delete all unused mod files which takes extra time for loading
Delete content of workshop folder (preview images inside, mainly)
Verify game's files afterwards
Eventually helping with load ~ not certain
Disable voice chat on server (no big deal for us when you use discord)
Disable end round by voting and bot conversations
Set minimum players to respawn 0%
Disable pause on lost focus
I can contribute this tool tip for people who runs it in windowed mode: https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases
It works indeed better than the ingame Borderless Windowed mode, for reasons I do not understand. But I am unsure whether its Fullscreen > Windowed or Windowed > Fullscreen...
It appears to be - the more NPCs(By NPCs I meant both human bots and monsters) are present on level, the heavier frame rate gets. Its not that bad when you are playing on pure vanilla game but it gets very notable if you are playing with mods that supposed to make game harder(ITA for example). Having 6 or 7 mudraptors can be a reason why frame rate drops down. Something that might be worth to keep in mind.
I was hosting public campaign on a bit modified Berillia couple of days ago. We have 10 slots for players in total and 1 bot. It was 7-10 players online on average, and very soon after start we faced huge drops in FPS, it was 10-20 for me during almost all run and seems that somewhat similar for all who played with us (which is almost unplayable).
These lags was only when I was on submarine, when I went to the station between rounds, FPS was normal.
We played about 7 hours.
During this run we also often suffered from disconnects for all players in the end of the rounds. Sometimes I had to restart game completely to stop desyncs and disconnects, it also helped to raise FPS, but not much and only for some time.
My current setup:
AMD Ryzen 3 pro 3200G
MSI GeForce GTX 1650 4g
16 GB RAM
HDD 1TB
Also noticed that when I faced these FPS drops, my CPU, GPU and RAM was not even close to full load, maybe 40-70% load on average for each component during run.
My gf who has exactly same setup and friend who owns better setup also suffered from FPS drops during run.
