That is because you need to entice the crew with a bit of bait. When was the last time you told security that the clown escaped and was in hiding near the objective?

tbh the mission is just sucks

I agree - the only thing in them that's at all interesting seems to be alien trinkets and the alien weapons, but in the grand scheme of things the alien weapons are bit meh and alien trinkets are only really good for deconstructing (or opening doors in other alien ruins), the resulting physicorium is far easier to acquire elsewhere.

I suppose it's a distraction from the usual enemies and gives the pew pew crowd something else to do.

Sounds more like an issue with your crew. EVAs are most beloved within our campaign as you get to see something different than just the inside of the submarine. As captain I am jealous the others get to see so much while the most I get to see are crawlers and other monsters breaking through the bridge's hull on the Winterhalter.

There is also a great mod which enhances artifacts and ruins, making it altogether more rewarding.

Which mission exactly? There three different types and the benefit from clearing them mostly comes from acquiring somewhat rare things like genetic materials. Using handheld sonar can simplify the mission a lot because most of the time you can keep blaring it on active and stay quite safe inside the ruin.

But the ruin missions are, fortunately, (almost?) entirely optional.

I think biggest issue is why are so many passages so tiny? where the aliens ants?

Worst yet all the crates are hard to even see - at least make the crates glow alien - everything else does

I miss the old ruins. They had an absolutely unpredictable layout, sometimes really crazy.

Ruins are often seen as boring because the difficulty they appear on is low enough to make them empty half the time so its primarily you getting lost in a maze for half the time with nothing to do. Although the reward usually makes it worth the hassle, both loot-wise and money reward-wise (if doing a mission) since its a bit safer than going to Abyss Islands for alien stuff.

You can speed things up by using a Plasma Cutter though, just cut through walls directly into the objectives (except of artefact room) and vice versa, if you need to get out faster.

I usually go alone and fulfill the objective when the ruins are close enough while the crew is doing a different mission at the same time because I can just teleport back onto the sub when they dock, lol.

I greatly enjoy the missions, especially since it allows for both a change of pace and scenery from the usual stuff we do.
