Nuclear Shell and what to put in it
Given it's inherently a nuclear explosion waiting to happen, what if anything does having a slot to fill imply? Are there additional effects you can apply to a nuclear explosion?

It makes it more boomy. That's about it. The nuclear explosion doesn't cancel out the follow up explosion, it just creates two explosions on top of each other for more damage. If you want more radiation poisoning, chuck a dirty bomb in there. If you wanna inflict more general damage, chuck C-4 in it. If you want a little bit of burn on top of your boom, throw in some Incendium C-4 etc.

That's pretty much it. Just further augmenting your explosion with more explosion.

There's also some very limited options involving putting stuff like an active Beacon or Handheld Sonar inside the shell to attract enemies towards it, but I mean that's probably a waste of a nuclear shell and also more of a job for depth charges anyway.

It's also widely known that the only appropriate way to dispose of clown equipment is by putting it into a nuclear shell and then firing the shell into the abyss, for what it's worth.

It implies the exact same things as it does on a normal railgun shell, and on a depth charge shell.

Brother, that's not remotely the same thing. A railgun shell is a projectile and that's it until you put explosives into it. A nuclear shell is already as explosive as it gets so it's not obvious what you gain by putting anything into it. Is it more boomy with some c4 strapped to A NUCLEAR EXPLOSIVE because that does not make sense in real life so I'm asking a question on game mechanics.

I’m pretty sure regular, empty railgun shells do explode a little. I’ll check the wiki in a sec…
Yup, regular shells have a 2.5 meter explosion radius, without being loaded with anything.
But like greenfields said, adding more explosives just… makes it more explosive.

Something else worth noting, in case you haven’t heard it anywhere else, is that putting poisons or other chemicals inside any railgun shell does absolutely nothing

You can fire poisons directly by placing them in the ammo slot of the railgun, but not inside of a shell. But only poisons and medicine since they are considered needles.

That doesn't work, sounds like some mod feature.
