Mining mission spawned way off map

I took a mining mission for Galena and the mining spot ended up being 1500 directly below the next settlement. I go digging around looking for tunnels and find a decent one with some minerals, but after blasting my way to the random minerals and plants it just dead ended on me.

Anyone know what was going on? The distance from 1 base to the next was about 400, so the minerals being at least 4x that away from everything seemed broken/bugged. I think this is the first time I've mined for Galena, is it super rare and valuable so they made it harder to get or something?

You probably got the unfortunate rng of it generating in a cave connected to the abyss or something. Luckily it's a rather rare occurence.

If you cant find another cave there - bad luck.
They (caves) often connected with each other caves system and you possible can access to that mining spot.

Do caves go on for 1400 feet/km/whatever though? Biggest cave ive seen was maybe 200-300 which is why I jumped to something was bugged.

If you dont have hole to abyss there - bugged.
If you have abyss there - search for a cave from the opposite side of europas stone walls (you can acess abyss another way => swim to the end of the level then decend deeper)
