however , you explicitly stated an 'existing' campaign. Thats actually a bit more tricky but it s still possible to use it in your campaign.
You can use the tool on this website: https://ignis05.github.io/baro-save-editor/
you drag-drop your savefile in there and then you can (after opening save) drag your .sub file into it. then you can select it. make sure to make a backup before fiddling with your save. This way you can use your sub, it wont be 'bought' but at least you can use it. to transer your stuff you can just add your sub to the savefile but not select it, export save, start game, then at the submarine guy you should be able to transfer your stuff to your new ship.
