Hello i'm new. Why is everyone trolling online?
I just got this game it's great, but i've only had like 1 good online game, all the other games people are either killing each other for no reason, getting cuffed for no reason, players cutting holes on the ships and breaking the pumps, people screaming insanely loud, extremely loud music.

AND.. RIGHT AS I WRITE THIS SOMEONE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ JUST GRIEFED ME AND THE PEOPLE ON THE SHIP INJECTING US https://gyazo.com/a3564cfe1218cadc564621e6c64191a5

I don't mind backstabby players and stuff, but nearly every game? Literally wasting my high trying to get into a decent server with players who wanna at least act serious. If someone wants to be a traitor thats cool and fine, but at least have reasons to. People just jumping in to troll right away. If the trolling was 3-4/10 games i'd be fine, but it's been like 8/10 of the time just unnecessary dickish moves. Being a mechanic sucks, i've been beaten, injected, or straight up killed by my own team far more than the game's elements killing me. I can't even practice or get good.

I met a few cool people in game, and there was a captain that gave me some xp as he showed me around around the ship teaching me stuff. We eventually died together by a teammate but that was sincerely hilarious and the guy who betrayed us gave us warnings and reasonings and then demanded to take over the ship. That's actually something i like to see, i don't like seeing people with blaring mics running around in clown outfits or whatever just killing players ruining everything and then leaving or getting kicked by players.

At least create an elaborate reason to betray players? It's more enjoyable that way.

I give the game 9/10 though, very amazing game, if any of my friends are reading this please buy it! 100% worth it.

Sadly, the way your submarine can go from perfectly fine to a sinking wreck quite easily, even during normal gameplay, draws a lot of griefers to the game, since they really don't have to do much to ruin a match.

Public lobbies also have two issues. Either they are full of griefers, or the host is very ban happy due to expecting griefers at any moment and will ban you if they are ever so slightly think you might do something.
The best you can do is to try and find a group here in the Recruiting Crewmates subforum, or the games Discord or other related places. Or as you said, get your friends into the game if you can.

Solo can be also fun, although in my own experience, it can get tedious, as while the AI is capable in many important things, in the rest they are compleatly lacking. Mostly anything outside the ship.

Yes, the gameplay is like that. You got trapped into buying by the good reviews. I hope you are not more than two hours in and can get a refund.

Random people are generally trash and security are too big of douches to deal with them, that's why. Join the official barotrauma discord there are tons of private lobby you can get invited to that are professional and don't grief

Because people are idiots. Public servers are good for finding friends to play with in private games later.

Because it seems like 85% of the community is full of trolls who have nothing better to do. I suggest staying off of servers with randoms and playing single player or with people that you know

I originally bought the game for multiplayer i have no idea how the singleplayer is. Is it worth playing? And to others who said create or join a private, yea ill try that, but it just sucks that i cant just jump in any time i want online and expect a decent game without having to contact a bunch of people and then get everyone prepared.

Honestly i'm about to just straight up shoot anyone wearing a clown suit because people who do wear it become extremely wild and crazy and often times very loud as well like they have the mic halfway down their throat.

But yea ill take you guys advice.

I play almost exclusively singleplayer. So far it's been worth it and not too difficult

I figured that would be the case. Why I've never played a public match. Private group only.
Happyscientist Dec 16, 2021 @ 12:40pm
I dont play multiplayer but I assume its like most games where greifing comes down to 5% revenge for a perceived slight, 45% really stupid kids trying to impress peers, 5% actual sociopathy, and 45% bordom.

If you can get a few reliable crewmates you can regularly play with that helps keep the boat afloat (add me if you want to play). I've also had some success discouraging act of terrorism by greeting new crew right as they board with "Ahoy Sailor!" over voice and assigning them a job, sometimes handing them a gun right away and telling them to get ready for what ever mission is next. I also encourage trolls to get creative in the server description because putting 4 rods in the reactor is noob ♥♥♥♥. Some days i get lots of serious players, other days it devolves into a ♥♥♥♥ show and you have to roll with it.

go to the role-playing servers, or gather friends or meet someone directly in the game and go to a private server. you won't fail.

As a general rule of thumb, look for games tagged as "Roleplay" or "Serious". Anything happens in other modes because people's idea of fun might not be to play the game normally.
You might've thought of this but I believe you're less likely to run into trolls in games with few people.
To answer your question, no, not everyone is trolling, but there are lots of them.
