I know quite a few players don't know you can use a drill \ plasma cutter to break ice
If it does not detect any, either travel further and scan again, or return to the sub and find another cave. Though 9/10 I recommend returning if it doesn't pick anything up when you're already in.
And, yes, Conrad is right. Only friends and allies 'round you, no need to be aggressive. Just take a few sips of ethanol and relax :)
I usually just skip it at that point...
Yeah. As a solo player I tend to skip caves entirely after the second biome anyway, they become too much of a risk for the rewards available (a few minerals, rarely some plants, that would be much easier to harvest from the sea bed). I don't do cave missions either as a solo player, that's just inviting crew loss.
