Still no fix for wreck IDs?
This feels like a problem I've had for ages where the captain's logbook is in the secure steel cabinets that require a Security Officer ID or a Captain's ID with neither body spawning. I've looked under the sub, I've checked every loose panel and vent, I even looked up the specific sub to find every vent in case it was covered up. I looked under and around the sub and still couldn't find any of their bodies.

It'd be nice to use a plasma cutter to cut out the cabinet and drag it back to the ship as a two-handed item like the old ammo boxes, or just drop the ID in a random cabinet somewhere as a guarantee because this is just silly.

Additionally I have also even gone as far as picking up all the existing bodies and shining a light on the floor just in case it's under somebody or just randomly having a card laying somewhere. It's frustrating.

This is what made me suspicious.
I retried again and got a Engineer and Mechanic corpses, the one mudraptor and nothing else.

It really annoyed me because it was my first Log recovery mission, and the log was stored in the secure case where i could not get it.

Fortunately, most subsequent missions either required me to recover crates or had accessible logs. And if a Sec. officer or Captain ID was required, i could find the body.

The problem only happened twice, and both times it was a small sub. Very hard to hide bodies from the hungry nasties in small subs.
A Berilia or R-29 wreck will for sure have most of the crew in tact.

But if you look out for it and if you explore lots of wrecks, you will sometimes catch monsters eating corpses (which they are programmed to do, normally).
That's why i think the bug is not the ID, or the Log, but the body being eaten.

Important wrecked bodies should be spawned in safe locations, where they cannot be eaten unless the player opens the door.

Awfully long comment for a vague complaint that doesn't even mention which wreck you have issues with.

I'm sorry you can't comprehend the simplicity of "I looked everywhere and can't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ find the IDs after checking every possible location" the reason for the length is to explain several avenues I have tried to make sure it isn't just a "skill issue" response or anything of that ilk. It's just a random chance to seemingly happen with any damn sub, I've had it with the Orca as well as two others I do not recall. It's not incredibly often, something like a 10% or so chance of it occurring.

TL;DR Me looky long time for ID, me sometimes never find ID, most recent with Barsuk, have happen with other sub too. Me hope helpful, me hope not vague. :miadumb:

Sometimes it's not a bug at all. The Captain's body is eaten before you can reach him.
Very often Europan wildlife gets into fights or into wrecks. You're more likely to encounter this problem in smaller subs, where the bodies aren't behind closed doors.

Honestly that's a pretty real possibility and a good answer, I appreciate it since it may be the most common reason for it to happen. Still could be circumvented by those bodies dropping bags at the very least.

I almost feel crazy since it's happened me to several times over the years and I don't think I've seen anybody else address it.

Yeah, I'd say for the most part this is a more than acceptable answer to the problem I had, something I hadn't really considered for whatever reason. At least wreck salvage does have payout aside from the money so missing out isn't too terrible.

Thank you, your comment was vastly more helpful than the first one made here.

If its about bodies beimg eaten, cant you program items to be dropped from bodies that are eaten or maybe create a "refuse pile" for player tondig througj to find the thing? I kinda lile the possibility of them being coincidentaly eaten, just needs a backup mechanic.
