Tobacco is pretty much the only thing worth growing IMO.
Salt bulbs are quite resistant to drops though.
Handcannon produces faster results. :p
We have been having a syringe gun loaded with raptor bane for like... I don't even know honestly, we've been sailing the Great Sea back and forth hunting for Abyss monsters. Mudraptors won't get in our vanilla-like sub, syringe gun is inadvisable in outposts (where raptors are found about 1/8 or 1/9 of the time). That'd only leave the nest missions, but even those are often crawlers or especially threshers.
Could be useful during the early game I guess, you choose your own priorities.
But ye, the fact that it only works against mudraptors makes it quite niche. Still potentially worth it if you have a spare inventory-slot.
Salt is tasty and plentiful, but explosives also require phosphorus... For us, it's the material we are most often running short on at later stages of the campaign.
