There is an in game tutorial that goes over some of the basics. But the short answer is you need to fix and power up the reactor/power source and then turn on the sonar.
I had one where the reactor was powered by like, a water valve? It was weird stuff.
Did you turn the sonar back off? It needs to be active when you end the round - which is easy, because everything relevant turns indestructible once the sonar is on, and beacon-reactors don't consume fuel. But if you turned it off manually it will fail.
You can look in the sub editor to see how a typical beacon station is wired, most follow the same general wiring plan even if they have the weird "hydro" power source (hint: it's a design cheat, it's not really powered by the water, you just don't need a fuel rod for those ones). Power source -> junction boxes -> pumps and console.
And yeah, they cant fix beacon for you (maybe im wrong, but my bots never do it even when we docked and all leakes shuted)
As long as you do all repairs before turning on power source, you won't have electrocution.
Actually, I'm pretty sure they used to be able to repair beacon stations during Early Access, but that was a bit of a bug I think (bots trying to do stuff outside of the sub) as it caused other problems.
If you just turn the sonar on without actually fixing the leaking and flooding in the beacon station, then it is very likely that a junction box or the reactor will break down before you can reach the end of the mission, which makes the sonar stop working. If you get to the end of the mission and the sonar on the beacon station isn't working, then you won't get credit for turning it on earlier.
