Grab some friendly bots or go it completely solo, the monsters will try to kill and eat you just the same. Bonus - with no humans trying to spoil or direct your game, you can take as long as you like, go whichever direction you like, modify your sub as you like, and when you've had enough for the day just get to the end of the round and click Save and Quit, bingo you're back in the real world, and you don't have to play the next day if you don't want to - your campaign will be exactly as you left it.
Seriously though, the single player mode is fairly mature, if this game didn't have a multiplayer mode it would still feel like a fairly complete game.
I find the multiplayer experience, especially with randoms, quite stressful so I mostly stick to single player. I have played multiplayer and met some stirling chaps who run a good server, I will play with them very occasionally (in a private server) so there's that aspect that may make dipping your toes into multiplayer worth a go, just be prepared to grow thick skin very quickly as there are plenty of players who will aim to ruin your day for their own amusement.
Thanks! I will give it a try!
However, there is no such thing as a story in this game and you have to find it yourself.
This is also it. *Sigh*
Play multiplayer for conversation and risk horrible people. Or play singleplayer with bots and immerse yourself in the world, but have noone to talk to. Choices Choices
Back on the wishlist it goes! 🤣
Barotrauma was originally developed to be played with others.
Gosh, it is a truly awful experience dealing with people online sometimes.
Quite interested in it, but earlier on the SP feedback wasn't so good. Does the game have difficulty settings? wondering if those can be used to balance AI (either up or down) depending on how good the NPC crew is.
Quite often the loudest voices are the exclusively multiplayer crowd, and they will mostly detest anything where they can't be fighting with or against other human players.
Single player types, in my experience, prefer the more relaxed gameplay option and are calmer people in general, less likely to shout about stuff.
I believe there are difficulty settings, it's been a while since I started my current campaign so my memory is hazy on the subject! As you progress further into the game your surviving bot crew (you effectively play as one of them) will improve their skills and the enemies become more dangerous, so it evens out the difficulty. If you keep losing bots then you're probably doing something wrong! Take it steady, don't rush in, learn enemy attack patterns and be prepared.
