Need interesting interior monsters
99% of the monsters just run at you and flop around doing melee attacks, and nothing really interesting, minus the husks, we need some more interesting enemy interactions, imagine something like John Carpenters the Thing, or a creature that drags crew members into balast tanks and cocoons them, just something besides, creature that runs at you and eats you instantly.

so they walk up to you and eat you..... like all the others.....

also mantis is very old, they only recently reskinned it and made it spawn naturally

No, it's very different from the others, because you need to deal with being paralysed instead of just being damaged.

All the different monsters attack in different ways, as well.

Crawlers like to do hit-and-run style attacks, where they bite you once then quickly swim away, while Mudraptors will just brawl until everything is dead. Tiger threshers also deal Infection damage, which means recovering from a thresher attack takes different amounts of meds than other monsters, and armor can't block infection unlike physical damage types.

I was thinking lately about how Subnautica gave me a sort of wanderlust sensation while Barotrauma doesn't. I suspect it's because Subnautica just had a much larger volume of creatures and some didn't even want to kill you. One felt like a thriving ecosystem full of life and curious creatures, while the other feels kind of dead.

I think Barotrauma would benefit from having a wider variety of life in general. Maybe some creatures that don't want to kill you, or that only attack when provoked. Maybe some that tend to eat each other. It would be more realistic and make the ocean feel more alive. Right now anything that isn't an enemy is just part of the scenery, like those glowing jellyfish you can't even shoot at. That's also a lot of work though so I doubt it will happen :P.

Passive or neutral creatures might be nice; on the other hand, with how preformance-heavy the game is, any content that adds a lot more entities and such to simulate would be hard to justify.

Average Steam Forum take.

Dude didn't even read the sneak peaks, nor watch it in-game, and still feels the need to have an opinion on the matter.

That is, actually, allready the case for most things. Moderately noticeable too, having a mission-swarm of monsters taken out by another normal swarm happens often enough.

Neutral creatures would be nice, but they're also effort... I can see why the devs choose to focus on aggressive ones.

"Neutral" barnacles that attach to your hull and slow you down (drag). Husk variants. Or that eventually drill a spike through the hull and spawn offspring in the interior.

I think it does need to be said that barotrauma supports modded enemies.
