It really depends on what you want from the game. Be sure it's totally playable SP with bots and It's fun, but the game is trully great on MP, much more inmersion, tension and pstd moments.
Single player mode enables you to play at your own pace without the distractions of griefers (if playing with randoms in public servers), having to manage a server if hosting, or trying to keep pace with others who might want to play for 10 hours straight almost every day.
I play almost exclusively single player these days, I'll only play multiplayer with people I trust in a private server. Single player can have it's intense moments but on the whole it's a much more relaxing experience than multiplayer.
I mean, it's nice to believe they aren't RP'ing when every single multiplayer game involves mass genocide at every single civilian station. The devs did a good job at designing a reward structure that singularly promotes the absolute worst behavior.
Generally I've believed that the game is what people make of it but now that people are getting banned from servers for not wanting to kill the NPCs that represent innocent bystanders, it's kind of hard to deny how toxic multiplayer has gotten.
That being said, just dropping into a multiplayer game is fun. Just be clear on what you are doing, use voice chat and dont be woried about getting wet.
Wow, didn't know that was a thing. There's roleplaying (which I've very rarely seen done properly, i.e. people acting like they're part of an organised hierarchical crew and not just 'roleplaying' being douchebags) and there's gaming the game just to get to the end for the sake of completing the game, as if it's some sort of game show challenge.
None of that crap in singleplayer, you can roleplay if you like or not, make it your own story.
