Questions about the Husk Symbiosis.
Hi, me and my friends are pretty new to the game and we have a few questions that I'm hoping you guys can answer. We're very interested in doing The Church of Husk quest-line. We saw that at the end of it that you get the Husk Symbiosis trait? It says on the Wiki that you get water-breathing and a few other abilities. But my main questions are 1. Do you still look normal or do you look like the typical Husk Infected? 2. How do the NPCs react to this when you dock your sub. If you and your whole crew look like infected zombies do you just get shot at on sight or? Lastly. 3. Do you guys think the Husk Symbiosis is actually worth it? Thank you for reading.

With husk symbiosis you get the following: pressure immunity, ability to breathe underwater, immunity to reachhing the final stage of husk infection (so no you won't look like a typical husk, only difference to how you are now is there'll be one tentacle hanging out of your mouth), inability to speak in game and the ability to infect others by stinging them with your tentacle.

You do not need to go down the Church of the Husk line to become a symbiote, you can do so via he Church of the Husk though all you need is a medical doctor (does not need to be a doctor but it is better if done by one), some unidentified genetic material, a gene splicer (one for each person) and a bit of luck with what the genes turn out to be once you refine them.

NPCs do not give a ♥♥♥♥ nor does your crew but you cannot order the crew around anymore cause you cannot speak (you can take some Calyxanide to cure the infection if required to speak but you'll need to reinfect yourself).

And yeah for the most part it is worth it, but not being able to order your NPCs or use in game chat is a pain.

ALSO do NOT go outside the submarine to test your genes or whatever sybiosis method you have used until the tentacle comes out of your mouth, otherwise you will die how you would normally as you only get the perks once the tentacle comes out (final stage of infection before turning).

Untrue, normal husk infection prevents you from speaking, and you can keep it from becoming deadly by wearing Zealot robes. (These also allow you to constantly regenerate health while infected.)
Husk symbiosis does not prevent you from speaking and has literally no downside. It is a quest reward for finishing the cult's questline, and also provides improved regeneration, similar to the highest quality Hammerhead Matriarch genes.
To answer your question, NPCs will not be hostile in stations, and will not notice. Your crew NPCs, however, have weird AI when they're symbiotic. I have noticed them not firing at husks anymore, which can allow them to get on board the ship. If your whole crew is immune, that's not really a big deal.

If you husk your whole crew (during the church of the husk questline), the game basically just turns into easy mode. The effects are:
  • Decent health regeneration, enough to sometimes self-revive.
  • No need for suits, as you're immune to pressure and drowning.
  • Husk creatures ignore you, and iirc you can kill them with no consequences.
  • Pressing "r" lets you bite with the husk stinger, which isn't that practical but you could husk an enemy outpost with almost zero risk.
  • The only downside is that if you're hit with calyxide, you will take a bunch of damage.

Husk creatures still become hostile, if you attack them. And using husk stinger still counts as attack for outpost security.

And you may still need PUCS, as regeneration doesn't heal burns and doesn't heal infected wounds. Regeneration also doesn't help, if you take 200+ damage in one hit, so you still need some protective clothing on top of Zealot robes, that further enhance your regenerative abilities.

symbiosis is quite a long quest trail but it feels worthed.

In short its same as being willfully husked , but you can still speak , and you dont need to manage anything via genes or clothes or meds. Outposts don't care. It's also 'embedded' in your character, so it can't be healed (which is good offcourse).

One caveat tho , if you die , you will loose it.

I specifically said ENEMY outposts. You could run in, bite a dude or two, wait, profit. Might be a while though.

It stops all mild to moderate damage in that you no longer have to apply meds. Except as was said. Extremely useful, sabes from sudden death from pressure and takes away most small busy work. This is super useful for solo play.

Important tip- When you finish the final mission amd come back to the outpost that has the husk faction the ritual will be ready. If you have ai crew make sure everyone is on follow in the sub, then goto the room and do not enter until all your npcs are right behind you. Then talk to the quest giver to recieve symb. Otherwise you can easily breathe all the o2 out of the room and all your npcs will run off for suits an Im not sure if they will get symb if they are not in the room with you.
Fun fact, if you're playing a black character, husk symbiosis turns you whiter than an assassin's creed III loading screen

They don't. NPC will ask, if all your crew is in room, before beginning ritual.

I kind of wish clowns had something similar as final reward too. Especially since clowns, in my opinion, demand a lot more, like whacking abyssal monster with toy hammer, or finding rare clown outfit, that sometimes spawns in wrecks.

Heheh, I think you just got clowned hard. This rare clown outfit isn't as rare as it seems, honest. You can oblige this request in less than ten minutes :steamhappy:

Often I see wrecks without any clown corpses at all.

The method is to steal the outfit from the quest giver.
