Exosuits need a fuel rod to function

Or a battery. Without it, it moves slow as hell.

Basically it's a diving suit that can punch through stuff and has a big inventory space and I think it had decent armor too, can't quite remember.

They changed its fuel source to fuel rods instead of batteries sometime around 1.0. Also, it can’t punch. You are right about the inventory and armor though.
Edit: also it can’t move at all without a fuel rod, not even slowly.

No, it’s got its benefits and drawbacks, but it’s actually one of the best suits. It’s a mechanic equivalent of the PUCS.
Pros:
10K depth resistance, the highest possible diving suit resistance in the game.
Built in inventory.
High damage resistances.
Stabilizes weapon recoil, allows meaningful use of HMG without weapon skill.

Cons:
Requires power to move on top of usual suit oxygen requirement. Cannot move or use items unless the suit is powered.
Even with power, the suit is slow, both in and out of water.
It costs a decent amount in terms of crafting material costs.
It cannot be stored inside diving lockers, and can only be stored on the floor of the sub.

I think the biggest issue with the exosuit is getting the heavy speed reduction from plants in caves, it would be nice if there was a minimum swim speed, because although it's already slow I think the regular swim speed is acceptable; swimming thru caves though is quite frustrating. Means Id consider not using it for nests and cave exploration which I think is a shame because it feels like it could be great for that environment without making it OP.

I personally think it would make sense for those plants to be destructible. But oh well.

It can turn (almost) anyone into a tank to distract creatures for other people to easily shoot especially when you give the exosuit user Anabolic Steroids / Hyperzine and a Boarding Axe or Heavy Wrench.
The suit is only useful for Ruins, Abandoned Outposts or Nests imo. If you are skilled enough then you could solo those missions with ease. Anywhere else an slipsuit would've been better.
It can also help you with periscopes as it removes some stun that would have otherwise knocked you off of them.

Unless you have to deal with fire or volcanoes - then it's useless garbage. Or CQC vs husks.
