Wait...compound N isn't the best explosive?

Just looked at the wiki and saw C4 is the best explosive by in every way (except price/craft cost) by far. I always thought Compound N was the best explosive with C4 being 2nd best and UEX being the basic explosive when materials are short.

Well, yes. C-4 is the best explosive overall.
You can get plastic from almost anything, UEX usually costs 80 - 100mk. (alternatively you can get free Sodium from Outpost extinguishers and Phosphorus from Mudraptors)
All you need is a high weapons skill, on-board Fabricator and you have a C-4 / Exploding Ammunition factory in no time.

Compound N is about half as strong as C-4 is. Its advantages lie in alternate material and skill requirement (although weapons skill is arguably the most useful in the game to focus on), and the ability make a volatile version of it that will eventually set off on its own, although the volatility of both versions of Compound N is also its biggest drawback IMO.

It depend on what do you want from the explosive
for hull damage: C-4 is the best
For creature damage: Frag grenade
For blast radius: UEX

Compound N is based off of tannerite. Shootable, weak explosive made with aluminium. Irl, tannerite has about half the explosive force of TNT with TNT being about 30% weaker than C-4.
