Piezo crystals have existed in the game since late 2020. They can be destroyed by any weapons, though they will also explode for lethal damage in 10 m radius.
Don't buy a new sub and think the sub is ready for combat right away. I mean unless you had an extra 12/17k+ marks after the Sub's sticker price AND invested that in upgrades for the sub, it isn't up to snuff for the given area. Stick to simpler missions if the sub isn't what I said before.
You fought a Moloch, Matriarch and Thresher squad, you should of either piloted a better approach or your sub is UP for those missions you picked.
One of the things that are crucial is using appropriate ammo for the enemy. If you try to kill moloch with normal coilgun ammo you are going to have a bad time. Piercing ammo is a must in later biomes for general combat and getting more specialized ammo can only help.
