Defense robot not follow
I'm an engineer in our crew and our mechanic is an AI and I let him learn the defense robot tree. I crafted them and I noticed that they don't seem to follow me around. Do I need to be a mechanic myself with the skill or is there a way to command them like the usual AIs?

Restart your game. It will then start following you and you will wish you never crafted this f*cking fly. At least that worked for me.

It makes the most annoying sounds and constantly falls down open hatches.

I think they start following you when you "play" with them, no matter who you are. But yeah, pretty useless, never seen it attack anything, get stuck on everything

They follow whoever plays with them: the family that plays together, stays together.

These robots would be useful if you could pack them into your belt to release them when needed; instead of buzzing around constantly.

A roomba would be more useful than this thing.

Thanks for help, but yeah they kinda useless. They keep falling over to the ballasts and are very soft. Prolly just one hit or two from a mudraptor.

Sounds are very annoying. They also make some items around them unusable (they intercept action inputs).

But you CAN take them on EVA with you, they can keep up, they do detect, engage, distract and kill monsters and they CAN kill a mudraptor on their own.

P.S. I just dropped my two robots outside near a crawler swarm just to see what's going to happen. Well, they exterminated the swarm. When I went to get them, a hammerhead showed up, and they pretty much killed it too. Overall, they didn't even use up half their ammo. They took only minor damage and they regenerate their health. Apparently, they are much more effective, tactical and durable in the water.

That is actually very interesting, might actually pick it up again. Stopped using it cuz i had one bad experience on it where they jst suddenly died inside the submarine, never made one again after that happened cuz it felt like i wasted my mats.

I just wish these defense robots could jst hover or at least go up on ladders cuz they keep falling over open hatches/ballasts

They are good in the water but they are eclipsed by an HMG and not worth the hassle. If you could stuff them in the locker they would be better. The beeping sounds are annoying as hell.

HMG needs an AI crew carrying it to be comparable to defbot though.

We got a rocket scientist in the audience!
