How does a motion detector work with "walls"?
I don't understand at all what the value "walls" do. I tried to detect walls of caves and outpost but it never gives me a signal. And if these walls are wrong, then what walls does it detect?

nah it definitely works, your wiring has something setup wrong
Dwarf Mar 29, 2023 @ 3:32am
@pyr0kid did you test it or "just saying"? Because I do. I set a detector with "walls" only, 1000x1000 and 0 offset, I tried both variants of ignoring. I connected its signal output to light component "Set_state" input, started сampaign and swam near outpost and celling (close enough, almost touching them). But nothing happened. So if you can show me how it works, please do it. But if you just saying "it works" only because you think that it should work and people around you just a bit stupid - better quit.

Does it work on environmental walls, or only structrual submarine/shuttle/outpost walls?
Dwarf Mar 29, 2023 @ 3:52am
@Mr.America I did some tests on environmental walls and on outpost. And it didn't work. It may work on another sub and shuttles - I didn't test it.

1000 is only 10 meters (not that far), is the motion detector on the outside of the hull or near the centre of your sub?
In the editor ALT and click-drag to see measurements.

Man, thx, but I know how motion detector work and how to look at its detection zone. I wrote the big guide about wiring in this game... Of course I set it near celling (but inside the hull, but it can easily detect through the hull - that's confirmed). And "almost touching" means "almost touching" not swimming in 10 meters near. Ok, I did another test. I TOUCHED the celling. Nothing. Sorry if I'm toxic, but just try before giving some advices. If the system will work in your case, then yes, I'm probably stupid and didn't do something simple or caught a bug. But honestly I doubt that you will force the system work in simmilar conditions because it seems broken.

i just mentioned it because i swear iv seen a sub that used motion detectors to create a psudo-sonar with light components.
It had limited range and would light up a grid of light components to display the surroundings in low res,
i think it used the motion sensors like a x/y plot grid, like an array of multiple long thin overlapping zones.

Have you tried moving the detector away from the hull so no part of the detection box covers your sub?

It probably works but keep in mind that it detects motion and walls don't move. Some motion detectors in vanilla subs are configured by default to detect presence and not just motion, so an editor configured detector might work with it, but I'm not sure a standard motion detector would.

Yep, you are right. Thank you. Motion detector can detect walls only if it was planted outside the sub and its detection zone doesn't touch the subs hull. Unllogical (because hull doesn't move relatively detector but environmental walls do) but true. That's bad because it's impossible to make system that could reacts on walls in-game. Only in editor... But thank you for help.

no worries
