why the plants are so nerfed?
i just returned to play this game with a few friends without mods and it seems that plants for medical items are extremly rare now, what happened ?

They are harder to find and require fertilizer for growth rate

If you mean plants like antibiotics and elastin then their spawn was changed: they no longer spawn in caves. Add to that no way to see them on sonar and it becomes extremely hard to find them on walls of passages, you'd need a gunner constantly watching out of them plus captain hugging wall so that gunner can see which is not practical. It's way easier and faster to just buy them.

Honestly they need grow boxes for aquatic plants, some way of detecting them via sonar, or aquatic plants need to deconstruct into more of their base material. Or a combination of those suggestions.

maybe if the devs though it was op before they could revert the spawn rate but nerf the output of the deconstructor

100% agree.
I hate having to grow plants in pots and have to make some special engineered system so my ship doesn't explode when growing them

Perhaps the assistant could have an advanced grow box that can suppress the dangerous effects of the plants by auto harvesting them, with room for one stack of whatever fruit it’s growing. After collecting 8, the fruits drop as normal and you need to empty the inventory. But it would make plants a lot less painful to deal with, especially now that mutated raptor’s bane also explodes.

Probably because one can easily put 10 pots next to each other and overlap 10 plants. Devs probably aware of how people stack plants in farms and nerfed it assuming everyone does massive plant stacking.

You’re misunderstanding the post. OP is talking about the plants that spawn in the natural environment, not the ones you grow in the sub, though I think both are a little irritatingly implemented.

I think the plants in the sub are well balanced. You can literally get infinite resources and money using them, all they need is constant water, startup capital, and rare-ish seeds. Hazards like them exploding are pretty well balanced for the utility they provide.

I do wish that more aquatic plants spawned in caves though, they aren't even that good anyway compared to ores so their rarity is a bit confusing.

Oh wow yea 100%. I have over 100 hours in baro and I MAYBE come across a plant ONCE.

It is another one of the frustrating changes, for a solo player especially.

I cant pilot the sub AND run the reactor AND be on lookout for plants etc.

If they'd even added a bot callout if they spot some it would help a lot.

I haven’t seen a plant in forever. Over the last 50 something hour campaign, I saw maybe ONE patch of plants and that’s it the entire time?
That is the one big thing I actually have a problem with in Barotrauma. I understand it’s technically a horror game, but when the terror subsides I want to look outside the sub and see a strange world of horrible beauty, not bland rock walls and muted colors. I’d love to get some kind of coral reef or something, more groves of plants, stuff to make the planet seem more vibrant and alive while still just as dangerous.

How many times do you think you should come across plant clusters (let's say 3x4 plants in total, or 36 deconstructed resources) in each biome during a Jovian radiation campaign?

As an example, here's my expectation:

Cold Caverns: 0 (this biome is over and done with so quickly, plants might as well not exist there)
Europan Ridge: 1-2 (diverse and relatively safe biome)
Aphotic Plateau: 1-3 (tight passageways and mission variety makes plant gathering more likely)
Great Sea: 0-1 (mostly open sea, piezo crystals and other hazards, little habitation)
Hydrothermal Wastes: 0-1 (mostly just cruising onwards or diving into abyss for hunting grounds, there's not much to do in endgame with radiation catching up to you)

Personally, if you're expecting to run into at least 2 "gardens" in every biome, I'd say you're overreaching or playing with radiation off and farming like that's all there is in the game anyways. :v

But if your experience is currently that you run into just 0-1 gardens in each biome, it's either A) actual issue with rarity or B) issue with searching, for example, you're preferring transporation and extermination missions over wrecks, nests, ruins and beacons.

I see your point related to the amount of resources gathered, perhaps there could be a large number of unharvestable ‘young plants’ surrounding 3-4 fully grown harvestable plants, to create the picture of an actual growth bed. Maybe textures that indicate a plant has been harvested instead of the plant just disappearing?

You can still plant a megaton of stuff.
Plant 2x4 pomegrenades, make sure there is a little puddle under it so the fire gets extinguished immediatly.
Hatch Psytoads and and Peanuts, keep them in the ballast tanks and feed them with pomegrenades.
With the pomegrenades you can make extract, with slightly heals your wound
The Mucus Balls gives you Bandages + Paralyxis + Calcium when deconed
The Hallucinogenic Bufotoxin gives you Paralysis + Saline when deconed or can be used against paralisys
The Eggs can be deconed into Alien Blood and Adrenaline.
The ♥♥♥♥ of the pets can be deconed into Carbon.

If you run short on sodium, plant 4x Salt Vines next to each other, make sure then don't touch the water, Cabinet are waterproof.

So with this, even after the nerf you still get make FREE

Carbon
Sodium
Calcium
Adrenaline
Paralyxis
Paralysis-Antidote
Bandages
Saline
Alien Blood
Pomegrenade Extract

I mean you can basically treat most afflications by free stuff.
