The problem is hatches don't actually do anything if there isn't a Hull for them to be on the edge of. If you make your shuttle bay a Hull zone, the shuttle will likely not be able to re-dock unless you set things up in a very specific way.
Or just dont put hull there and it will just stay open to water with the hatch preventing monsters from getting in. Shouldnt effect ballast if no hull. Just means visually it will always be under water.
You can do this, but shuttles cannot enter a hull, so once it unlocks it will not be able to dock to the main sub again. There are a few subs on the workshop that have managed to make this work, but it requires some very special setup.
Really, I know you can make moon pools with the hull no transit stuff. So does providing a gap enable the shuttle to pass through like you do for people to pass through moon pools?
Made a sub that dropped a bathosphere from an air bay with gaps but that was like 2017 or something.
Either way, using normal hangar door (as in, the door itself is a shuttle) would be the best approach if not for the bugginess that comes with it.
