Unless you isolated your Steam installation or refused all game updates for Barotrauma (game updates tend to get forced on me eventually, the game refuses to run otherwise) then I'd be surprised if there is such a thing as an old working version, certainly you wouldn't be able to play multiplayer unless you had friends who also had the same old version and I think multiplayer seems to be where most of the fps problems occur.

There are mods that undo some of the changes made by recent updates, whether they help with fps problems I couldn't tell you. I made the Version 14 Uniforms mod which brings back the old uniforms, but the skeletons and faces etc are still the updated ones.

Controversial idea: play on or run a dedicated server.

You'll need to get the manifest id from SteamDB https://steamdb.info/depot/602961/manifests/ and use the download_depot command from the Steam console (which you have to enable). Or you could probably build it from the GitHub source? You'll also need to disable updates (also more complicated than it sounds) or play in offline mode.

Both options are complicated and not worth typing out a full tutorial since idk if you're willing to go that far, so just Google downloading previous versions of any game and look for that command.

I have somewhat of a guide but it's for a different game and a different reason but it's the same steps. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1965585146

And here's Barotrauma's source releases: https://github.com/Regalis11/Barotrauma/releases

Good luck :CatHapi: :MaidMakaiCoffee:

with the help of the recent version changes, its DEFINITELY 100% on the dev's fault, along with them rushing out an update when someone had to leave work for the time being before all this lag bs, thanks to the version change, I can finally play again, from what I know and with constant talk in the past in the server etc, they're not interesting in fixing the game, atleast from what they've shown their behavior to be, mostly the people who've bought the game act like its everyones devices and get mad when someone suggests theres a performance problem, but the devs also usually excuse it off as "Well a game needs higher specs as its developed" which would make sense, but given they rushed out the recent update, that doesn't really apply since because of it being rushed out, they were left with performance issues even they alone have trouble fixing, right before the appearances, right before all the outpost stuff.

I don't have a problem with the game particularly as I do enjoy playing it, nor will i say the devs are horrible people, but its been so so long since i've been able to play again, even lategame, without all these problems, there are times when focus should be on improving the game rather than adding onto it i realize.

I think in Betas, the devs should keep one or two previous versions, maybe even the one before the appearance update, and before the outposts, that way, we're not so limited to a point where we cant play until they find a fix.

I would agree that being able to choose from a few previous versions like we can choose Unstable would be good. I wouldn't expect bug fixes on those previous versions, just to be able to choose which one I want to run, and obviously multiplayer would likely require the same version from all players who wanted to join a particular server but that shouldn't be a problem if we could just go and select the right one.

Bit harsh to say that the devs don't care though, Unstable has a fix for the stutter just before enemies appear so they are clearly working on performance, and they have asked the community to provide data on the fps problems.

it is harsh yeah, and they have added that fix, my main issue which made me lose my trust with them was how they acted towards people who had problems, sometimes i felt as if they didn't want to do anything about it, not that they were inherently evil people, but it feels as if they dont really care a whole lot despite the few fixes they did release.

Just sorta feels as if they feel like they made a finished game, so now the game is just getting content adds left and right despite there being no ending, as well as the 2 most recent rushed updates which caused them to not know why the performance had so many problems because they didn't really pay attention to the code stuff and more on one guy leaving i think.
