A properly piloted and upgraded Dugong can, in some situations, stay within the turn radius of a specific end game threat and fire on it with impunity, although is you do take a bad hit in a Dugong, having a single large room flood means your sub is going to start sinking real fast, on account of the ship having fairly small volume and all of the rooms having exterior hull walls isn't really great. One thing the Typhon and such really do better than the Dugong is that if they lose a room or two to flooding, the vast majority of the sub is generally still protected from flooding and the volume of the sub is large enough to keep the sub floating with the ballasts pumped out even if half of another deck is full of water.
Dugong for small crew,
Orca 2 for medium
Winter halter for full team play
I'm personally a big fan of the room layout too, medbay is easily accessible and gearing out can be done pretty fluidly. Only thing it lacks is a depth charge launcher, but you can 100% ghetto a depth charge with the bottom airlock which makes its design incredible.
Only failure in its design is diving room being at the bottom level and very far, which means that if the submarine suddenly floods then crewmembers will die trying to get suits.
Have they added a way to add fabricators through the campaign? I used to love the Dugong, but after realizing the lack of fabricators it becomes a dealbreaker honestly.
